37-Inch LCD TV Reviews:

It seems that the 37" LCD televisions are the odd size out in terms of reviews. Most magazine and websites focus on the 42 inch and larger lcds or have sections set aside for the 32 inch models. Finding relevant reviews on 37 inch LCD tvs proved difficult to say the least. CNET doesn't do a good job of posting comments on 37 inch models and PC World has outdated reviews that list older models. Even About.com in their home theater section has some good reviews, but they too don't focus on the 37 inch lcd, so they are not relevant for this article. Consumer Reports does include the 37" televisions in their latest LCD and plasma findings, so their ratings along with the owner reviews we found on sites like Amazon.com and AVSforum.com are how we came up with our "top picks" down below. Firstly, consumers need to know that LCD flat panels have come a long way in a short period of time and now they are competing directly with similar size plasma screens on price as well as features like color quality and viewing angle (two areas they used to lag behind in). Price is a key component in why LCD tvs are taking on plasmas. LCD tvs are offered in way more size options, 37 inches is one of them.

Samsung, Olevia, Sharp, JVC, Vizio, and Toshiba are the leading brands when it comes to 37 inch LCDs, but don't overlook LG or Insignia models. Perhaps the biggest thing you'll need to consider in this class of tv is the difference between a 720 and 1080p resolution. Both offer HD quality viewing, but the 1080p will show up as a better image on the 37 inch LCDs. Experts say that as your screen gets larger, the 1080p resolution will make a difference and although they don't recommend 1080p 32 inch LCDs, they do say that 37 inch LCDs show improvements in picture quality when delivering 1080p. That being said, the price difference between 720p and 1080p in the 37 inch LCD market is about $200 to $300. We suggest going to your local electronics retailer like Best Buy, Frys Electronics, or Circuit City to see for yourself what the difference is when viewing the two widescreen resolutions. Most people have a hard time seeing the difference, but you may get crisper images on HD movies and broadcasts from your cable company. The good news is that prices are dropping at an alarming rate as the market has been flooded with choices and LCD tvs are no longer significantly higher priced than plasma screens. The Olevia 537H 37-Inch LCD HDTV is top rated by consumer electronics magazines and it sells for around $600. The Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 is cheaper than $600 on Amazon and still gets very positive owner feedback as a "best value" in the 37 inch LCD market. Samsung, in our opinion, still leads all players with their lineup, including the Samsung LN37A550 ($950) which receives high praise from experts and consumers alike. At 1080p, the Samsung 37 inch LCD is a top seller and provides high definition tv (HDTV) for a reasonable price. To any consumer deciding between 32 inch and 37 inch LCD tvs, we say consider the larger size. Many people think the higher quality picture will make their smaller tv look better, but surveys show many consumers wish they had bought a larger screen after the fact. The price difference between the two sizes is minimal and you'll be kicking yourself that you didn't spend the extra $200 or $300 for the larger 37 inch model. As long as you have space in your family room or living room, the 37 inch LCD will be a better buy for the long run. Will pricing continue to drop on 37 inch LCDs? We feel that there is still some room for price reductions, but having already come down 40% or more in over a year, don't expect much more in the coming year. One factor that may play a part in the price wars is the current recession that retailers are experiencing in the United States. Consumers may become more frugal and manufacturers may have to offer price incentives to get them to buy. The 2010 models due out soon will give us a good idea of where pricing is going. RECOMMENDED - We suggest shopping online at Amazon.com since they carry all the leading brands and often have the lowest prices on the internet. You can browse the top selling 37" LCD tvs on Amazon here.

37 Inch LCD Tv:

RECOMMENDED Want an LCD 37 inch tv for under a $1000 with 1080p? Go with the best selling Samsung LN37B650 ($999) and you won't be disappointed. The LN37B650 delivers full HD 1080p resolution making DVD movies and HD programming come to live right on the screen. The new 100,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and the fast 4ms response time along with the 178 degree viewing angle makes watching tv enjoyable again. Picture quality is "excellent" per experts and consumers and colors are vivid. Owners say it's hard to beat the combination of "price and performance" on this Samsung LCD TV. If you are more inclined to skimp on the 1080p resolution and go with the a 720p, consider the award winning LG 37LH20 which sells for less than $6800 and still offers a great picture. One TV manufacturer that seems lost in the shuffle with newer LCD and plasma flat panels is JVC. We did, however, find their JVC LT-37X688 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV which received great feedback on many websites including Amazon. The 1080p resolution from this 5th generation Genessa make it a "good value".

Top Rated LCD 37 Inch TV:

I don't think you can go wrong with a top pick from the experts at Consumer Reports which is fully supported by consumer reviews on Amazon.com. The Panasonic VIERA S1 Series TC-L37S1 ($600) gets great marks for HD picture quality, DVD viewing, and sound quality. One of the few knocks against this model is the onscreen menu. The 1080p resolution and price make it a top seller on several electronics websites. Panasonic has long been a recognized name in the plasma and lcd tv market and this latest offering shows they are ready to compete with the Samsung models. You can read up on all the 37 inch LCDs online.

Budget 37 Inch LCD TV:

We understand that not everyone wants to spend $700, $900, or $1000 on a mid sized LCD flat panel tv. We have 2 "finds" that pass the test amongst experts, and consumers think they are great "value" buys. The first is the Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-L37X1 that costs $540 and although just a 720p resolution, the flat panel tv will give quality HD reception. Consumers say the Toshiba 37 HL67 is a "fantastic set" with great color quality and the audio is just as good. It's sold on Amazon and other electronic etailers. Vizio is certainly recognized as new name in the tv industry and their flat panel LCDs are gaining market share each year. The Vizio VU37L is sold on Sears.com for under $550 and the reviews are all positive for this set. It measures 37 inches diagonally and features 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, 5500:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 178 deg. viewing angle, and a 20 watt audio system. Owners like the fact this tv doesn't overwhelm their family room or dens like 50 inch models might. The price is incredibly low given that competitors are charging $100 to $400 more for virtually the same technology. Several consumers noted that the 37 inch model goes into their bedroom and is mounted on the wall to maximize space. Picture quality on the Vizio 37" LCD is "splendid" and HD programs come in "really clear" say a few owners.
