What are earbuds? Earbuds, often also called earphones, are small headphones that are placed outside of the ear canal. They are extremely small and portable. Basically they can be put in a pocket, and they don't mess up your hair. However, in general, the earbuds to not offer the dynamic range that a full sized set of headphones can offer. If you do a lot of traveling and listening to music on an iPhone, it makes sense to upgrade your iPod with these. They are portable and extremely lightweight. Over 1,200 people have reviewed the Sennheiser CX300 on Amazon alone and they have 4 out of 5 stars -- this is a big seller. Reviewers say they are great for bass. People also like the fact that these earbuds are pretty comfortable and you don't have to push them too far down in your ear to get good sound. As a side note, Sennheiser claims these have 'ambient noise attenuation' which is meant to give the listener some noise reduction. However, keep in mind that this is not "active noise reduction", which is meant to block out all sound. In contrast, the ambient noise attenuation is a nice feature, but is only meant to block out a bit of sound and be effective for people traveling in slightly noisy surroundings. Macworld magazine also gave these in-era-canal headphones 4 out of 5 stars. They mentioned one plus is that the earbuds sit at the edge of your ear canals, and this makes them easier to get in and out of your ears. Macworld says these headphones hold their own against similarly priced buds. Reviewer Dan Frakes said, "Thanks to their good sound quality and excellent comfort, the CX300 are currently our favorite "canalbuds." At a street price of around $55, they're worth the additional expense over the $30 to $40 competitors we've heard." CNET gave the Sennheiser CX 300 headphones 3 out of 5 stars. CNET said, "if you're looking for an affordable, decent-sounding pair of earbuds, start with the Sennheiser CX 300. Sennheiser's first in-ear design sounds like a winner to us." The only real negative, according to Macworld and CNET, was lack of a travel case.

If you are looking to spend very little money on your headphones, you can't go wrong with the Sennheiser PX100 collapsible headphones which currently runs about $35. These headphones have had over 1000 reviews by Amazon customers and again, the verdict is in with a 4.5 star rating. They are open-air headphones, collapsible and come with a case. Reviewers love these headphones and they feel the sound is great. They also seem durable, but they are very lightweight at the same time. It is important to note that the PX100 Sennheiser headphones have more emphasis on the low-end sound. One thing to be aware of is that again, these are also open air headphones, which means other people can hear your music. The only complaints we saw were from people having trouble fitting them in their carrying case. The Sennheiser PX100 are considered to be great for a variety of type of music, and are definitely better than more expensive headphones from some other companies.
