Dog Boarding Review / Guide:

Do you want to go on a vacation? Are you worried about where to put your dogs while you are away? I am lucky because I have a roommate and he is always willing to take care of my dog when I go out of town. If you don't have any roommates or if you are going to be gone for a while then you should consider sending your dog to a boarding facillity. If you have a friend in the area who will watch your animals for you then be sure to take advantage of that offer. You can usually get a pet sitter to stop by your house everyday to feed your dog (and walk him) for about $20 a day. Here in Las Vegas it costs me almost double that to board my dog when I leave town. Some dog boarding locations also offer dog grooming and obedience training, even though there is an additional charge it might save you a trip to your groomer later on. In a place like Las Vegas it is important to make sure your boarding service has air conditioning to help keep your dog safe in the 100 degree temperatures. If you are having trouble finding a good location to trust with your pets, I recommend that you ask your vet for a reference (a lot of time your vet will be able to recommend a local boarding facility). The internet is also a great way to search for and research any local boarding business that you find. We hope you will find our review helpful as you try to find a safe place to leave your dog.

Dog Boarding Locations:

Are you looking for a dog boarding facility in Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta, or Los Angeles? If you live in a major city it is usually pretty easy to find a good dog sitting business (boarding company). In Seattle we found a great boarding service that you can find online at seattledogwalker.com. For the Los Angeles area we recommend you check out setiadogs.com/state/california where you can search for a dog boarding service in your local area. If you live in Florida, San Diego, or any other city (big or small) then check out their homepage at setiadogs.com/index.html for local boarding companies nearest to you. Their website is also good for explaining the requirements needed to board your dog, restrictions placed at the dog day care, emergency care provided and more. Get some peace of mind knowing that your dog is having a great time with the pet sitter or at the dog day care. The best piece of advice is to stick with a boarding service that your dog seems to like, in other words if your dog seems happy with your current situation then stay put.

Typical Dog Boarding Service / Accomodations:

Most dog boarding services offer the same services and training while your dog is staying with them. In most of the boarding services we reviewed we found there to be 2 types of providers, average and expensive. We have included below the boarding packages available at American Boarding Kennels in Minnesota. They offer their Standard Services at $21.95 per day, caged area with braided rugs, fed per your instructions with 3 outdoor exercise times and 3 treats per day, music. They also offer the VIP Suites Dog Boarding Package for $37.00. This service comes with: private room with raised bed, tv and vcr, 4 outdoor exercise times, cuddle time, 3 treats per day, choice of premium pet food, all this plus the services that come with the Standard Combo listed above. This company also sells boarding pet insurance, and for the active dog they sell extra walks for $2 per day. You can find all this information on their website at americanboardingkennel.com/abk-dog-boarding-services.htm.The nicer packages do cost about 50 % more, but if you love your dog it might be worth it.

Dog Boarding Prices / Boarding Benefits:

Do you want to know what it costs to board your dog (or cat)? There are a few factors that go into how much it will cost you to board your animals. The first thing that determines what you will pay is the size of your dog, for example I pay $34 a day to board my dog who weighs 85 lbs. If my dog was medium sized and weighed under 60 lbs then I would only pay $25 a day (adds up quick on a week long vacation). The second thing that can affect the price at a dog boarding service is simply just location (what city do you live in). If you live in a major city like New York or San Francisco you should be prepared to pay top dollar. In Los Angeles you might pay up to $40 a day to board your dog, but in a smaller city like Tucson you can find places that are under $25 a day. The last major factor that determines the price set by a boarding facility is the services they offer. The high end boarding services offer grooming, dog walks, private kennels, and even obedience classes to help your puppy learn while you are away. Of course you can just leave your dog at a standard pet sitting service if you think that's sufficient. I would recommend paying the extra money to leave your animal at a top notch facility because it will help to eliminate behavior problems your dog might pick up (if they feel abandoned and isolated at a low end facility). On average you can expect to pay about $25 per day to board your dog (it will be a little cheaper if you leave your animal for 5 or more days).

An Alternative to Dog Boarding?

If you don't like the idea of leaving your pet at a boarder, the other option is to leave them at home with a pet sitter or drop them off at a pet sitters house. Sometimes you can find a neighbor teenager to come over and care for your pet; maybe you have accomodating friends or relatives to help out. An alternative is a professional pet sitting service like FetchPetCare.com. They offer in-home pet sitting where a pet sitter will arrive at 6PM and depart 9AM the next day -- your pet gets to stay in their own environment, and you have someone to watch your home. They also offer "private boarding", where your pet can stay in the home of a professional pet sitter. How about dog walking or pet visits? They do that as well. All their pet sitters are bonded and insured, and professionally trained (they also go through criminal background checks). Check them out if you'd like something different from standard pet boarding.
