Baby Exersaucer Reviews:

It used to be parents would put their little toddlers into a baby walker once they were about 8-10 months old and let them move around the house that way. Safety concerns have pretty much removed almost all the "baby walkers" from the market but consumers were left with "exersaucers" or stationary play centers for babies. Unlike a baby walker where the childs foot actually touched the ground, in an exersaucer the toddlers feet rest on the saucer which is at the bottom of the activity center. The baby sits in the suspended seat which allows them to turn around and explore all the various toys and music attachments on the saucer. The main reason parents like these exersaucers is because they are stationary meaning your child can't roll it or walk it down the hallway and get into trouble. Also, all the entertainment is right at the fingertips of your child. These exersaucers have spinning items, musical toys, mirrors, ones that talk, and some that offer different textures and sounds. Once your child can stand up against a table or chair and begins to want to walk, these stationary entertainers make lots of sense. They are stable and give your new toddler the opportunity to build up leg strength while standing in a safe spot.

Many websites point out that "exersaucer" is actually a brand name that Evenflo started so it's not totally fair to call these playcenters an exersaucer, but in this article we will refer to them as exersaucers or baby play centers. Evenflo is the top seller in this category of baby toys and entertainers and they make the Evenflo ExerSaucer 3-in-1 Pond, Evenflo ExerSaucer Delux - Wild Thing, EvenFlo SmartSteps Exersaucer Entertainer, and the Evenflo Exersaucer Mega Circus. Other manufacturers include Graco, Bright Starts, Kolcraft, Safety 1st, and Fisher Price. Most are reasonably priced from $50 to $100 but the 2 most expensive products are the Sesame Beginnings 2-In-1 Activity Center ($150) and the Evenflo Exersaucer Mega ($199). We had the same Graco exersaucer for our 2 children and my son definitely liked it more than my daughter. My wife and I found that these playcenters came in handy when we were preparing dinner and didn't have extra hands to chase our child around. We would put them into the entertainer and let them sit next to us while we cooked our meal. You will probably get about 15 to 20 minutes before your child becomes bored and wants out. The music is an essential part of these exersaucers as that is what kids love to have. The more songs the better and once your child figures out how to run all the toys on board they'll love it. Our daughter would bounce up and down in her little seat inside the saucer and have a blast just bouncing. Some of the older versions of these toys had parts that came off the main area and they were recalled - one was a Graco product, so if you do try to pick up a used one on Ebay or at a garage sale make sure you check all the moveable parts before allowing your child to get into it. Exersaucers are a great invention and parents all around the United States are thankful for them as they entertain our little ones and give us a break from the hands on care that infants and toddlers require. You can find these stationary activity centers in stores like Target, Walmart, Kmart, and Babys R Us. Online, your best source for selection and prices is at Amazon.com. For reviews, you can check out sites like Epinions or Amazon and read the consumer feedback that some owners leave. The Newparentsguide.com is another site that stay up to date on baby and toddler products with recommedations and About.com offers excellent reviews in their "baby products" section run by Heather Corley. She does writeups on baby saucers, bouncers, and play centers. One product we didn't mention in this article was the Leapfrog Learn&Groove Activity Station. While LeapFrog gets impressive feedback from parents on learning toys, this activity station was not available online when we did the article so we left it off the list. Perhaps it will come back onto the market and be available again. You can browse the baby entertainers and activity centers here.

Best Exersaucer:

The EvenFlo SmartSteps Exersaucer Entertainer ($100) is not only the most popular of the bunch, but at $100 you get your moneys worth with all the entertainment this unit offers. Thousands of these exersaucers have sold on Amazon and in toy stores like Babys R Us with the vast majority of parents happy with their purchase. The Smartstep Exersaucer from Evenflo is perfect for toddlers of all sizes with an adjustable seat that has 3 height positions. The seat will spin in all directions leaving your baby the option to play with any toy they like. There are 18 interactive activities on the tray on the overhead mobile. As for music, there are 50 sounds that will play. The Evenflo Exersaucer is meant for kids from 4 months to walking age. Parents comments online praise this baby entertainer more than almost all others with feedback like "excellent exersaucer" and "highly entertaining". One drawback is that the unit requires 12 AAA batteries for the toy bar, music player, pod, and bus. Another top seller is the Evenflo ExerSaucer 3-in-1 Pond ($117) which some parents say is a "must have" since it is actually 3 toys in one. You can use it as a baby playmat, Exersaucer, and activity table giving you plenty of life out of 1 product. The Evenflo 3 in 1 helps with fine and gross motor skills, tactile development, hand-eye coordination and musical awareness. You can find the SmartSteps Exersaucer and the 3 in 1 Pond on Amazon.com. The Evenflo Exersaucer Mega Circus still has a list price of $199.99 and although it offers some extra features that other exersaucers don't, most parents agree that for $100 cheaper you can get a quality product that will still entertain your child and help them develop all their pertinent skills. Top Rated Baby Playcenter:

You don't have to spend $100 to give your baby a quality stationary playcenter. Consider the Baby Einstein Discover & Play Activity Center ($79.99) on Amazon.com which features the standard 3 position height adjustable seat, a 360 degree swivel seat, 9 interactive toys, and the seat is totally washable. It only takes 3 AA batteries to operate all the music and sounds unlike the Evenflo Exersaucer above that takes 12 AAA's. The toys include an orange rubber teething star, yellow sun rattle, green dragon hand puppet, 3 spinning wheels, plastic book, spinning globe, and buttons that will play animal sounds and names. A few parents complained in online reviews that the stationary base had some stability issues, but those complaints seemed to be isolated. Graco is a leading name in baby and toddler toys, you can see their entire lineup of toys online at Gracobaby.com.

Budget Stationary Baby Activity Center:

Bright Starts is a company that offers great baby toys and products at reasonable prices when compared to other name brands. The Bright Starts Tropical Fun Around We Go Activity Station ($79.99) is the most expensive of their 3 offerings and some parents say it's best for smaller toddlers since some older and stronger children can push the table around making it not very stable. The Bright Starts Bounce Bounce Baby Activity Zone in Pink ($39.99) is meant for girls and the Bright Starts Bounce Bounce Baby Activity Zone in Blue ($39.99) is the boy version. Both get excellent ratings from parents and they are for infants and toddlers from 4 months to 12 months of age. You can find out more about Bright Starts stationary activity centers online at Brightstarts.com. Even the Evenflo Wild Thing Deluxe ExerSaucer ($44.99) is an excellent product that you can find in stores like Target. See all the Bright Starts baby activity centers here.
