What is the best long distance phone service?:

Your best choice for long distance should be your cell phone carrier. Many cell phone monthly plans include long distance for free within your given minutes. The National Plans give you a set amount of minutes you can use for local or long distance calling from your cell phone. There are limitations set on minutes and the time of day you can use them, but using your cell phone for long distance is becoming a cheaper way to make those long distance calls. The largest long distance carriers are MCI, AT&T, QWEST, Unitel, Opex, Sprint, and Talk America. We found the best long distance company to be AT&T with their vast network they offered the best long distance rates and have some unlimited long distance calling plans. Qwest, too, has a $20 a month unlimited long distance plan for home use. Getting a package deal so that you can call long distance on your regular home phone is a good way to get the lowest rates. Even cable companies like Comcast are now moving into homes across America as their long distance phone company. Check with a site like Phonedog.com for the best long distance rates offered in your state.

Cheap Long Distance:

Long distance has always been more expensive than calling locally, but things have changed in the world of phone services and now long distance calling can be really cheap. Discount rate plans are available from your local phone company where you can make off peak long distance phone calls for $.05/minute or less. Some long distance phone companies are giving discounts on bundled packages (DSL, Phone service, etc). I've seen an unlimited long distance plan offered by Qwest in the state of Oregon for $20/month (there are rules and regulations). People have always wondered why it's more expensive to call to another state versus across country considering the phone lines are already in place and nothing special needs to happen. Now, though, phone companies can't charge much for long distance since cell phone carriers are essentially giving away free long distance with most of their calling plans. If you sign up for a national plan with Verizon, you get say "600 minutes" a month and you can call long distance for all those minutes if you want. Don't pay outrageous fees for long distance calls anymore, do your research and find the plan that best suits your needs.

Long Distance Calling Cards:

Why pay for long distance in the United States anymore. Almost all cell phone plans offer long distance calling within the continental US as part of the package. You can now call your friends in New York or California for the same price as calling someone across the street. It shouldn't surprise consumers how cheap long distance is since all the phone networks have been setup for years and it doesn't cost the phone company any more to let you call 2 miles or 2000 miles. If you don't have a cell phone or a home phone with long distance, then we recommend picking up a long distance calling card at your local convenience store to get the cheapest rates.

International Long Distance:

The easiest way to make an international long distance call is to get a calling card from a site like Masterbell.com. They offer the cheapest long distance rates to countries like France, China, Italy, Korea, and 100's more. You can get phone cards to countries like India for $.09/minute. Just choose the country you want to make the international long distance call to and they will show you the cheapest rates offered. Just choose the phone card (calling card) of your choice and pay online. The card gets send to you and you get however many minutes you bought. There are huge differences from calling cards companies just to call the same place so don't rush into buying a long distance calling card. We saw some calling cards offering long distance to China for $.02/minute versus others that wanted $.35/minute. Now with online companies like Skype.com or Google offering phone calls from your computer, international long distance may be as cheap as regular calls within a few years.
