What does Comcast offer?:Comast is a huge entertainment company that offers broadband internet services with their Comcast High Speed Internet product. You can also get Comcast Digital TV (for that new HDTV you guy) which gives you 100's of channels to choose from. Their new DVR product will challenge Tivo. From the Comcast website on DVR: "DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. DVR is a new way of experiencing TV. DVRs digitally record, store, and playback all your favorite programs -- so you never have to miss your favorite shows again! In general, you can store up to 60 hours of standard definition programming and up to 15 hours of HDTV, however, Comcast offers several different DVR models so, check the information provided when you receive your DVR. DVR lets you play your stored programs as often as you like and control live TV with VCR-like functions, such as pause, rewind, and instant replay. And there is no need for tapes, timers, or a VCR". Comcast now offers Digital Voice and Digital Phone services that rival their competitors since they can give discounts on all their combined services (cable, internet, phone). Comcast truly is an entertainment giant that potentially will dominate the online world like no other.
What is Comcast Cable/Digital TV?:Comcast is the top provider of cable tv in America and has recently expanded into the digital tv realm. Comcast Digital Cable is a brand new way for Comcast to deliver television signals to your home. Digital technology enables Comcast to "compress" its signals, thereby providing you with high-quality picture and sound. Comcast Digital Cable gives you the following features:
High Speed Internet/Broadband:High speed internet access, sometimes called broadband, is sweeping the nation. No longer are dial-up speeds ok with AOL or other ISP's. Plus, Comcast Pure Broadband comes with tons of special features like click-and-play video clips, exciting games, Disney kids' activities, digital music and lots more. Get up to 6 Meg's with Comcast high speed internet which is 4x's faster than 1.5 Mbps DSL and up to 100x faster than 56K dial-up. You can login to the Comcast.net website and get access to Comcast Email, Sportsnet, and PhotoShow. When you signup for the Comcast broadband experience, you get web space to create a home page or store files online. They also give you tools from McAfee designed to keep you safe online from viruses and annoying popup windows. Once you try high speed internet access you will probably never go back. The extra month each month for broadband is well worth the time saved from dialing up or waiting for web pages to load. Get things instantly and download to your hearts content.Buying a Cable ModemNormally your cable company will want to sell or lease you a cable modem for your home internet access, but many people head out to the electronics store and buy their own. So what is the best cable modem? They are totally interchangeable - listed below are several examples of models available. Plan on spending $50-$75 (you can quickly see why you would not want to lease a cable modem for $5 additional per month - not worth it!) Make a trip to Office Depot or Staples or Circuit City and check out the models available.
Comcast Email:Comcast gives you up to 7 email addresses when you sign up with their high speed internet access. Access your email from any computer, anywhere in the world, through Comcast.net. Much like Yahoo or Google email, keep in touch with friends and family and with Comcast Email. They give you 250 MB of storage space but I'm sure that will continue to rise as Google and Yahoo put pressure on them by offering 2 GB or more.
