For years people wore "coke bottle" glasses and looked a little ridiculous, but since the invention of contact lenses, there is no need to look silly anymore. Common vision problems involving imprecise formation of the eye’s optical parts are called refractive errors. There are four basic types: myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism (uneven cornea) and presbyopia (aging eye). Myopic or nearsighted people can see near objects clearly, but distant objects are out of focus. Hyperopia is farsightedness which means objects up close are often unclear. The first step to wearing contacts is visiting an optometrist or ophthalmologist for a contact lens fitting, even if you don't have a vision problem and just want to change your eye color. Contacts come in many sizes, and during your exam your eye care provider will measure your eyes to determine which size is right for you. If you already wear contacts but want to try a different brand, you will need to see your eye care provider to be fitted for that brand. Once you have been fitted for contact lenses and have your prescription, you are ready to purchase.

Special Effects and Novelty Contact Lens
Nowadays people are looking into special effects and novelty contact lens as a way to enhance eye color or create the perfect touch on a Halloween costume. There are a huge variety of novelty contact lens (more than I would have ever imagined) ranging from black, glow in the dark, alien, cat eyes and panther to flame, red, white, swirl, and flower. Most of these special effect lens still require a prescription from your doctor, but some are offered as non-prescription types. One site we found that offered a huge selection was Fxeyes.com. Most pairs of special effect lenses run about $170-$300.
Stop wearing contact lenses and get Lasik Eye Surgery:
LASIK is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person's dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The procedure permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. A knife, called a microkeratome, is used to cut a flap in the cornea. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma, the middlesection of the cornea. Pulses from a computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. The surgery should take less than 30 minutes. You will lie on your back in a reclining chair in an exam room containing the laser system. The laser system includes a large machine with a microscope attached to it and a computer screen. Immediately after the procedure, your eye may burn, itch, or feel like there is something in it. You may experience some discomfort, or in some cases, mild pain and your doctor may suggest you take a mild pain reliever. Both your eyes may tear or water. Your vision will probably be hazy or blurry. You will instinctively want to rub your eye, but don't! Rubbing your eye could dislodge the flap, requiring further treatment. In addition, you may experience sensitivity to light, glare, starbursts or haloes around lights, or the whites of your eye may look red or bloodshot. These symptoms should improve considerably within the first few days after surgery. You should plan on taking a few days off from work until these symptoms subside. It may take up to three to six months for your vision to stabilize after surgery. Surgery can cost as little as $500/eye, but cost should not be a big issue since we are talking about your vision and you want to make sure things go well. I would say $1800 is fair price these days for both eyes.
