Picture frames are a great way to show off your latest photos of friends, family members, or images from trips you've recently been on. They are conversation starters and an excellent way to decorate your home and brighten up rooms. Picture frames are made from many types of materials - glass, wood, metal, plastic, leather, and magnets. The shape of the picture frame will help enhance the photos you want to display. Be creative and don't just always go with a squared off picture frame, try oval picture frames, collage picture frames (multiple photos can be displayed), round picture frames, or other shapes. The color and design features will surely bring to life any picture you have. Choose from black, silver, or white picture frames and those with molding, engravings, personalized features. No longer are people buying ordinary picture frames, they are purchasing custom picture frames that make each picture unique. A recent innovation has been the digital picture frames (we go into it in more detail below) which allow you to have a slide show of pictures cycle through the frame for a constant variety.

For most pictures you don't have to spend that much on a quality picture frame if you want to frame them, but with wedding picture frames or baby picture frames, you will want to buy the best and have it look perfect. This is where it can become very expensive, framing family photos that are large or wedding pictures in top notch frames can cost over $300. By the time you buy the frame, have it done with matting, and pay for the custom work, the cost can seem high. Therefore, we suggest you shop around or look in the Sunday paper for coupons to stores like Michaels that do custom framing. The 30% discount can save you a lot when trying to frame a nice photo. You can even shop online for picture frames at sites like Pictureframes.com or Framingsupplies.com and perhaps do some of the work yourself. Purchasing picture frame supplies online has saved me literally $100's over the years and I am now totally capable of framing a photo with matting and a nice frame for about $85 and my time (about 1/2 hour). Some of the online photo sites like Ofoto.com, Snapfish.com, Shutterfly.com, and Walmart.com will print your photos after you upload them and provide quality framing at a reasonable price. Check for online coupon codes to get the best discount possible when ordering. We always use Ofoto and have been happy with their online service and framing orders so far.

Digital Picture Frames:

The latest technology innovation with pictures is displaying the digital photo in a digital picture frame. All you need is a memory card for storing the photos and buy a digital picture frame that will show them. The digital picture frames display normal size photos (nothing available yet that displays 20 X 16 images except through your TV set). The electronic picture frames are sold online through Amazon or other photo print sites. The top selling digital picture frames are the Pandigital 8.0" Digital Photo Frame w/2 Interchangeable Frames ($199), Digital Spectrum MemoryVue MV-800 8'' Digital Frame ($189), Ziga 8-inch Digital Picture Frame ($150), PhotoShare 7" Digital Photo Album ($95), CEIVA 3 Digital Photo Receiver ($124), Philips 9" Digital Picture Frame (Clear) w/3 Additional Colored Frames ($250), Digital Well 8 Inch Digital Photo Slide Show Frame ($219), TAO 1" Digital Picture Keychain ($39.99), and the Pogo PPF100M4 Pholio Digital Photo Frame ($299). Other popular frames are the Edge Memory Digital Picture Frame ($177) and the SVAT RS630-1078 Digital Photo Frame ($65). Several offer remote control features for quick changes. The Ceiva frame "receives and displays new pictures daily in a digital picture slide show (requires paid subscription that must be purchased from CEIVA)". The one common complaint from most owners/users is that like all electronic equipment, these digital picture frames can and do break. They are not worth fixing in most instances so make sure you take care of them and don't let children knock them off tables or walls. Other options for unique picture frames are getting them done as a custom picture frame with personalized expressions or words on the outer edges of the frame or perhaps the frame will have a theme to it with pictures of dogs, butterflies, roses, etc. around the frame itself.

Cartoon Picture Frames:

Picture frames are now available with funny slogans, cartoon themes, and some that actually play sound as well as display photos. Cheap Picture Frame:

Finding discount picture frames is not that hard. Stores like Target, Walmart, or Michaels do carry cheaper picture frames that cost no more than $7-$15 and will display photos just fine. You won't get the matting or molding, but if those things don't matter to you anyways, you will make out ok. You can order online from sites like Framesbymail.com, but we found that shopping locally at craft and photography stores will get you the same prices on the low end frames. If you have a coupon for online shopping then perhaps it makes sense or if you are buying in bulk. Some online picture frame sites that we visited do have wholesale picture frames when large quantities are ordered, email or phone the sites for details. Overall, we would say shopping at Target is a great place to start when searching for a reasonably priced picture frame.
