Finding Boats Online for Sale:

With all the types of boats out there - sailboats, house boats, fishing boats, motor boats, pontoon boats, inflatable boats, power boats, and jet boats, it's not easy finding a site that carries all of them with a large variety to research. We found Boats.com does the best job of all. They offer a section called "New Boat Showroom" that features the latest makes and models in power boats, sailing boats, fishing boats, and watersports. The power boats area is broken down ever further into pleasure boating, yachting, high performance or pontoon. Each manufacturer has their listings with complete details, reviews and photos of the new boats on the market. Looking for a used boat? Go no further, Boats.com has an excellent service for buying or selling used boats. You can find a boat in your area and do online research at the same time. The major manufacturers also have excellent sites for information, pictures, reviews, and price comparison (Searay.com, Rangerboats.com, Regalboats.com and Larsonboats.com). A high quality sports boat will run you $45,000-$60,000. Many of the boat sites we found are much like car sites, they let you see the latest inventory and guide you towards a local dealer for pricing. Another good source of used boats is on Ebay.com. Considered the #1 auction site in the world, Ebay offers a huge selection of used boats all over the world.

Boat Covers:

With over 15,000 boat covers to choose from at Boat-cover.net, you can easily find the correct cover for your boat model. They claim they have the most extensive inventory anywhere. They include the industries best 3 and 5 year limited warranties on every cover they sell. You can order free fabric swatches by calling an 800 # to make sure you like what you are potentially buying.

Boat Loans and Insurance

Lots of sites exist for boat insurance, but the best was at Boatus.com. With 4 types of policies to choose from - Total Protection Yacht Policy, Basic Protection Boat Saver Policy, Personal Watercraft Program (PWC), Bass Boat Insurance - boat owners can find the right fit. Your price will depend on your boat's location, use, size, type, age, power type and other factors relating to the boat. Coverage is available anywhere in the United States (excluding Alaska) with seasonal cruising extensions available to Canada, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Mexico. Premium discounts are available for selecting restricted cruising areas such as the Chesapeake Bay or Puget Sound. The BoatUS Program awards premium discounts for successful completion of any safe boating courses approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). Many people assume, much like cars, that you are required to have boat insurance but that is not true. There are no state or federal laws that require a boat owner to have insurance on a boat. However, if you have a loan using the boat as collateral the bank will require insurance coverage listing them as a loss payee to cover their interest in your boat. Also, most marinas will require that you maintain boat insurance in order to keep your boat at their facility.

Sailboats, which are the best?

Looking for a good sailboats. Are you a beginner, intermediate, or advanced sailor? What price range are you in? These are all important questions to ask before buying a sailboat. Perhaps a used sail boat is the right decision. Catalina Yachts has an excellent site with sail boats for all levels of experience. The U.S. Sabot by Catalina is the perfect first boat for the beginning sailor with safety and simplicty. The Catalina Sport 22 is a "great boat to step up from dinghy sailing to a pocket cruiser/race". For the more advance sailor, we recommend the Catalina 320 with it's sleek deck and wide cockpit. The interior is made for longer sails and provides more amenities and comfort than other lessor models.

Houseboat Rentals:

Houseboating is still a great pasttime for families and large groups on lakes all across America. They are relaxing and easy to pilot even for the most unskilled skipper. Houseboatrentals.com is a great online resource with links to house boat rental companies in all states with rates, sizes, and operating dates available. Places like Lake Powell (Lakepowell.com) have always been top destinations for house boaters and you need to reserve a boat early in the season to assure a spot. Pricing varies, but a Super Cruiser (with hot tub and fireplace) that sleeps 16 on Lake Shasta would cost $5595/week in the summer season. Split amongst multiple families, the price is reasonable.
