Thermos Reviews and Buying Guide:

The thermos has been a part of American life for decades, especially with the construction workers who take their lunch boxes and thermoses to work each day. I grew up with a thermos in my lunch box that I took to school and my mother always filled it with warm foods or liquid. Just unscrew the top and it became a nice cup to drink from. The only problem was that the older plastic models tended to crack and leak more often than not and they didn't hold up over time. Now, you can buy nice stainless steel coffee thermoses that look great and don't leak. The newest thermoses allow you to take soup to work and have it still be warm hours later since they are so well insulated. If you don't happen to live next to a Starbucks, you are probably brewing your own coffee at home and could use a good coffee mug or thermos to travel with on your way to work. Campers have used thermos mugs for years on outdoor excursions since they are durable and light.

Stanley is perhaps the most recognized name in bottles and thermoses along with the Thermos Nissan series. Many of the thermos mugs you buy are versatile in that they are durable enough to be used on camping trips but still functional enough to be brought into the office. Most range from 16 to 20 oz which make perfect storage containers for food as well as liquids and their ability to keep things warm beyond an hour or 2 is a bonus. We tried to track the latest thermos products for both food or drink and determine what advantage or disadvantage each possessed. You want a coffee mug that is spill proof, leak proof, has a non-skid bottom, and a double insulated wall to keep hot liquids hot and cold beverages cold. There were reviews on sites like Amazon.com, Coffeegeek.com, Epinions, and on a Backpackers equipment testing site. Just look around your office place as well and see what others are using at work to keep their coffee and food warm. Most of the coffee mugs and thermoses we found were priced between $20 and $30 and available online in stores like Amazon.com or in traditional retailers like Target. Read below to find out which companies offer the best thermos, coffee mugs and food containers. If you are ready to buy online, we recommend Amazon.com. We are always impressed by their competitive prices (often the lowest), fast shipping, and customer service -- plus almost everyone already shops with them and trusts them. You can browse their up-to-date list of best-selling thermos products here.

Stanley Thermos:

Stanley makes more rugged looking thermoses and food/liquid containers, but they are just as efficient as the Thermos products listed below. The Stanley Classic Food Jar ($25) is durable and our choice for the best outdoor food container if you need something hot for a day hike. The double wall stainless steel vacuum insulation is great for keeping soups and chili hot. No need to pack a bowl since once the top is removed it doubles as a bowl (12 oz). You get a lifetime warranty on this food thermos container. For coffee or hot chocolate, consider the Stanley Classic Mug ($15) with an easy grip handle and double insulation. The mug fits right into your cars cup holder for added convenience. We say stick with the Stanley thermos for outdoor use with its rugged looks and durability. Reviewers on Amazon give the Stanley products an A+ rating. You can find the newest Stanley thermos products online here.

Thermos Nissan & Element 5:

Thermos is a leading company that produces a wide array of thermos mugs that are very popular amongst coffee drinkers. The mugs combination of stainless steel and vacuum insulated design are the perfect match for keeping your liquid hot. On of their top sellers is the Thermos Element 5 Travel Mug (16 oz) ($33) - gives you maximum temperature retention for hot or cold liquids. The precision 18/8 stainless steel exterior and interior makes this mug "unbreakable" as well as extremely lightweight. The lid is leakproof and the base is sturdy and stable. A carabiner is included (comes attached to the handle) so you can easily attach the thermos to your backpack or other gear. Thermos also makes food storage containers, tumblers, carafes, and beverage bottles. Their Thermos Nissan 48-oz. Stainless Steel Wide Mouth Bottle ($37) is a great choice for those of us who like coffee all day long and don't want to keep filling up. Whatever your preference, Thermos carries it. Browse all the sizes and models here. Check out their entire selection online at Thermosonline.com.

Pacific Cornetta Coffee Mugs:

For the most stylish coffee mugs/thermoses, check out the offerings at Pacific-cornetta.com. They carry an extensive line up of mugs and thermo-bottles. The sleek and stylish looks of these coffee thermoses will fit right into any office environment offering a professional finish. The Ringer 20 is the perfect size at 20 ounces and makes a great travel mug with the stainless steel exterior. The lid is splashproof and locks easily as well. You can find their mugs online if you want to buy them at Active-gear.com.

Starbucks Thermos:

We didn't want to leave out the famous Stainless Steel Trek Desktop Mug Tumbler ($19.95). Starbucks dominates the coffee industry and my wife ventures to their store quite often. She owns one of their simpler coffee mugs but recently purchased the above mentioned mug. The Steel Trek holds a sufficient 12 ounces of your favorite liquid. It will keep hot cocoa and coffee hot and juices or water cold. Comes with a splash proof rim and a non-skid surface on the bottom to prevent sliding around. It is dishwasher safe which makes it easy to clean. My feeling is that Starbucks already makes too much money on their coffee, so give one of the other brands a try.
