Reviews of the 2007 Ford Escape - Ford Escape Hybrid:

There are 5 new models that Ford is supplying with the 2007 Ford Escape. Get the Escape XLS Manual, Escape XLS, Escape XLT, Escape XLT Sport, and Escape Limited. The cheapest is the Ford Escape XLS Manual starting at $19780 you get a 153 HP engine with 2.3 liters and 4-cylinders. The mileage is rated at 24 city/29 highway. Escape XLS starts at $20460 and has features like a 4-speed automatic O/D transmission, 15" styled steel wheels, intelligent 4WD system. The Ford Escape XLT is the most popular model with 16" aluminum wheels, premium cloth seating, and an available Duratec 3.0L V6 with 200 horsepower. Starts at $22895 with 22 city/26 highway MPG. The XLT Sport is our favorite with step bars, keypad entry, bodyside cladding, rocker, liftgate, P235/70R16 all-season OWL tires. The power and handling on the Sport version are impressive and the overall performance was superior to the other models. The Escape Limited has some nice features that the others don't, but with worse gas mileage and a higher price, we still feel the XLT Sport is the one to go with.

The 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid is just what America needs, a small size SUV with hybrid technology to increase the gas usage. Up until recently it was just the Japanese car makers (Toyota and Honda) that were offering hybrid cars, but Ford has stepped into the right category and should do well. The Ford Escape Hybrid has both FWD and 4WD models available. The FWD model starts at $26215 and has nice features like V6 power, lots of cargo space, and 36 city/31 highway mileage ratings. By no means are these cars supposed to be used for weekend boating activities or hauling things (they do have limited horsepower), but they are great around the city and town with good gas mileage and plenty of space for carrying equipment or kids. We think the FWD option is best with superior performance and handling per reviewers. You can check out all the features and options at Fordvehicles.com. There are also independent reviews done at Ford.Edmunds.com. You can compare the Ford Escape and Escape Hybrid with similar cars in the small SUV category.

Ford Escape Accessory:

Buying accessory or aftermarket parts/addons for the Ford Escape is easy to do. We recommend going to Fordaccessories.com and choosing from floor mats, deflectors, bug shields, splash guards, carriers and racks, cargo accessories, running boards, towing accessories, and interior accessories. A bike carrier from Yakima will cost about $116, a cargo box runs about $500, and a Load Warrior by Yakima will cost $270. Running boards are $400, trailer hitch towbars are $32, hitch covers are $13, and a full vehicle cover is roughly $300. We recommend Motorcraft Dash and Vinyl cleaner at $8.95, the results are amazing even after some terrible spills that were mopped up immediately.

Used Ford Escapes

Viewing online classified sites for used cars, we found some great deals on used Ford Escapes. A 2005 Ford Escape goes for about $15800, a 2004 Ford Escape is $18500, 2003 Ford Escape is $14,500. We found that many of the more popular used car sites like Carmax, Automart, and Carsmart had plenty of listings, but mostly by dealers. We preferred Ebay Motors or Craigslist.org for better selection of owner sellers (you get a better price that way).

Ford Escape vs Honda CR-V vs Jeep Compass vs Mazda CX-7:

The Jeep Compass is the cheapest of the bunch starting at $15993 and offers many of the same features, except it's only a 4-cylinder (means less power). The Mazda CX-7 is roughly the same price, it too though only offers an inline 4 with 2.3 liters. You do, however, get a turbocharger which pumps up the horsepower to almost 250. Turbos tend to wear out much faster than a V6 engine does, we prefer to stick with the Ford Escape based on the standard V6 with almost 200 horsepower in the XLT Sport model. If you have the extra $$, then the hybrid version is also a great buy. As long as gas stays above $3 gallon, then hybrids will pay for themselves after about 4 1/2 years. The Honda CR-V is another excellent seller in this category and if you have to go with an inline 4, then make it the CR-V. Great performance has always been a standard with Honda and the 2007 Honda CR-V is no different.
