Ford touts the 2006 Ford Explorer as the best one ever built with a 5 star crash test rating, 0% APR financing, and they pay for all your gas until 2007. There are 4 models to choose from - the Explorer XLS ($27175) - the Explorer XLT ($28870) - Explorer Eddie Bauer ($30845) - Explorer Limited ($33160) and all offer some excellent standard features like AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, 4-wheel independent suspension, Class II trailer towing hitch, power sideview mirrors, and a 4.0L SOHC V6 engine with 5-speed automatic transmission (210 horsepower minimum). The XLT has added features like overhead storage console, fog lamps, 6-way power driver's seat with manual lumbar support, illuminated visor mirrors, and a leather wrapped steering wheel. Our favorite model is the Explorer Eddie Bauer with 17" painted aluminum wheels, lower front bumper, rear bumper and wheellip moldings. Running boards, automatic headlights, leather trimmed front bucket seats, and keyless pad entry. Mileage is a steady 15 city/21 highway. The Limited has larger wheels, more power seat functions, and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control. Although the added features are great, we still would buy the Eddie Bauer model which offers great performance and reliability. All models can be found at FordVehicles.com with features, specs and wallpaper images.
The 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes in XLT and Limited with 4x2 and 4x4 options. The Sport Trac is a sport/utility truck that has been around almost 5 years now. Engine size varies from 4.0 liter to 4.6 liter. Prices range from $22890-$27762. The cheapest model is the Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4.0L 4X2 with standard features like MP3 Player, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, and seat mounted front side airbags. Our favorite model is the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4.6L 4X4 with a V8 24 valve engine that delivers 292 HP via a 6-speed automatic transmission. Gas mileage is just ok at 14 city/20 highway. Standard features include manual air conditioning, battery saver, 23-mm rear stabilizer bar, power rack and pinion steering, automatic locking hubs, Advance Trac Traction Control, Control Trac Full-time 4-wheel drive, cargo area tiedowns, black exterior rails, side guard door beams, child safety door locks, crash sensor and much more. Safety, storage, seating, comfort, convenience, and traction are top rate and keep your family safe. With the innovative design and functionality of an SUV and truck in 1 model, the Sport Trac should stay in production well into 2008. Down below we will compare the Ford Explorer to its main competition - Toyota 4 Runner and chevrolet Blazer.

Ford Explorer vs Chevrolet Blazer vs GMC Envoy vs Toyota 4-Runner vs Jeep Grand Cherokee:
There is tough competition in this category of vehicle and Ford will need to continue building quality, reliable cars in order to stay near the pack. Having owned a Toyota 4-Runner for years (it was my wifes), we had a very durable 4WD SUV that never had a mechanical problem well over 100K miles. The add-on features that were bought seperate from the dealership were the only things that caused us issues. I've had many friends with Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer models and they too were very satisfied with the cars over their lifetime. The same can not be said for Chevy Blazers or even the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Toyota SUV's get great gas mileage and have nice interiors, while the Chevy's and Fords are good off-road vehicles that are much more powerful. If I had the money, I would buy the Jeep Grand Cherokee $43k+, but for the money I would have to recommend the Ford Explorer or the Toyota 4-Runner.
