The 3-door hatchback starts at $13995 and it's versatility makes it a hot seller. Mileage is great at 27 city/37 highway and the 60/40 seat backs with flip up rear seat cushion allow you to change configurations within minutes. Great little commute car with limited power. The 2007 Ford Focus sedan (4 door) is $14295 and offers a 5-speed manual transmission, front wheel drive, front stabilizer bar, and power windows. The Ford Focus ST ($17585) has a 2.3 liter Duratec 23 DOHC I4 engine and power 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The sport front bucket seats make the car not only comfortable but very stylish. Parents will love the lower anchors and tethers for children (great for car seats). The dual stage driver and front passenger airbags will keep you and your family safe as well. The Focus ST sedan gets 22 city/32 highway mpg.

Ford Focus vs Honda Civic vs Dodge Caliber vs Chevrolet Cobalt:The Cobalt is the cheapest of these cars with more horsepower than the Focus, but we still prefer the Ford Focus with its larger engine (2.0 liter vs 1.8 liter) than the Honda Civic. The Focus offers much more versatility with cargo space configurations, 2 and 4 door options, and has a lower price than both the Civic and the Caliber. Owners of the current Honda Civics say they are happy with the reliability and long term enjoyment. The Civics cost less to own and are worth more down the road as used vehicles versus the Focus. Focus owners say the Fords offer better performance are more sporty looking than Honda Civics. In either event, if you have a few more $1000 to spend, we say the Dodge Caliber with its 2.4 liter engine and 172 HP is the best choice.
