I have to admit the first time I saw one of these SUV's a few years back I thought someone had bought a military humvee and painted it black. Then I saw the logo on the back that said Hummer H2 and I knew it was a commercial vehicle. The Hummers are really just the Chevy Tahoe Chassis with the Hummer body on top. For a complete history of the Hummer vehicle, see Humvee.net. The Hummer H1 Alpha will cease production in June 2006 after nearly 14 years in production and almost 12,000 sales. This will be your last chance to buy a new Hummer H1. Hummer dealers will still service the Hummer H1's, so current owners should have no worries. As for the H2, H2 SUT, and H3 Hummers, keep reading below for details on their latest models, pricing and reviews.
The Hummer H2 comes in 3 models - Base, Adventure, LUX. The base Hummer H2 starts at $53855 and comes standard with the Vortec 6000 6.0L V8 engine with cast iron block, cast aluminum cylinder heads and sequential fuel injection. The transmission is a 4L65-E 4-speed automatic and delivers 325 HP and 365 lbs-ft of torque. The drivetrain is a Borg-Warner 2-speed, electronically controlled, full-time 4 WD. The brakes and front/rear suspensions are state of the art, the wheels are 17 inch cast aluminum and the tires are LT315/70R17 all terrain tires. The Hummer Adventure sells for a litte more at $56385 and comes with an air suspension package well worth the extra $1000's. The Hummer H2 LUX has it all at $58095. The gas mileage is not mentioned, but we have read reports that owners get about 10 MPG. The 2006 Hummer H2 SUT (Sport Utility Truck) is half pickup and half SUV. The H2 SUT comes with a luxury interior, great off-road performance, a 72-inch bed (when the midgate is folded down). The engine and models are identical to the regular H2 and the pricing was similar as well. I prefer the H2 SUT because of the innovative design features that include a truck bed. The all new Hummer H3 is what you see on the streets with it smaller body size, smaller pricetag, and better gas mileage. The Hummer H3 starts at $29500, gets an estimated 20 mpg highway, comes with a 4-year/50,000 mile limited warranty, the VORTEC 3500 engine (220 HP), a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmissions, and 8 exterior colors to choose from. With the current oil/gas crisis in the world, Hummers are not the most politically correct vehicles to own and drive on the streets, but they do offer extreme SUV luxury and off-road ability.
