Reviews of the 2006-2007 Hyundai Cars - Accent - Elantra - Sonata:

Hyundai is one of the few carmakers that offers 5-year/60,000-mile bumper to bumper coverage and a 10 year/100,000 mile Powertrain warranty on all their cars. That sounds like quality workmanship to me since other manufacturers like Chevy give you roughly half the warranty levels. They even offer owners a Hyundai car magazine called Smart Driver and their website has a special section for current owners with access to digital owner's manuals, warranty, service reminders, and maintenance schedules. The current lineup of cars includes the Accent, Azera, Elantra, Sonata and Tiburon all of which are reviewed below with their standard features and pricing. You can see details online at HyundaiUSA.com.

The 2006 Hyunda Accent GLS sells for $12455 and includes dual front airbags, front seat mounted side impact airbags, side-curtain airbags, disc brakes w/ ABS, and a powerful, yet fuel efficient engine with up to 36 MPG. The ride is smooth, but the power that Hyundai speaks of (110 HP from 1.6 liter engine) doesn't seem like enough. There is ample interior room. Similar vehicles in this class are the Kia Rio Base, Scion xA, and Chevy Aveo. The 2007 Hyundai Elantra comes in 3 models (GLS, Limited, GT) all priced under $16K. The Elantra GLS has a 2.0 liter V4 engine w/ a 5-speed manual transmission and room for 5. The sport tuned suspension and steering make the Elantra a fun drive with a luxury interior. The Elantra Limited comes with leather seating, 4-speed automatic transmission, woodgrain trimmed instrument panel, and 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback. Although the GT offers some nice extras (15" wheels, gray leather, fog lights), we feel that the Elantra Limited is the best buy. Even Consumer Reports mentions the Elantra Limited as "value buy". A car that I got familiar with through rental car agencies was the Hyundai Sonata (4 models offered - GL, GLS4, GLS V6, LX). At first I thought "Oh no, not a Hyundai" but after driving the car over several weekend trips, I soon realized it has a nice interior, comfortable ride and sleek exterior. The 2007 Hyundai Sonata (LX) comes with a 3.3 liter DOHC V6 engine so you get plenty of power to go with the standard safety features and superior handling and performance. The LX sells for $22895 and with 20/30 (City/highway) mileage, we feel many more American will have these in their garages in 2007.

Hyundai Azera - Tiburon:

The 2007 Hyundai Azera is a premium sedan with lots of luxury features. The 3.8-liter, 24-valve, DOHC, V6 engine with CVVT and Variable Intake System (VIS) and 5-speed automatic transmission make the Azera a smooth ride with plenty of power and performance. The Azera SE goes for $24335 and the Azera Limited (our perference) sells for $26835. The Azera Limited comes standard w/ 17" alloy wheels with P235/55VR17 tires, Chrome insert bumper moldings, leather seating, heated front seats, and power everything. The 265 horsepower make the Azera fun to drive and help it compare to other cars in its class like the Toyota Avalon, Mercedes E Class, and BMW 760i. The fuel tank capacity is close to 20 gallons and mileage ranges from 19-28. Cargo room is ample for weekend getaways or daily routines with kids. For a sportier feel and look, Hyundai created the Tiburon (GS, GT, GT Limited, SE) with standard features like 2.7 liter V6 engine, front side impact airbags, ABS, remote keyless entry/alarm, rear spoiler, dual exhaust, and alloy wheels. The Hyundai Tiburon GT Limited starts at $20495 and has a nice 6-disc CD changer audio system w/ Infinity amplifier, and 6 speakers and subwoofer. The younger crowd will definitely love this car, especially with the best warranty program in America. You can drive your car hard and not have to worry that it will break down, leaving you with a huge bill. We have heard great things about the 2007 Hyunda Tiburon and hope that it's all true. Consumer Reports has a new fall report coming out that we will be reading very soon.

Used Hyundai Cars

With the strong warranty and customer satisfaction ratings very high, Hyundai owners are often reluctant to part with their cars, but the used market remains a great place to pick up a great value on Hyundai cars. We found some excellent used car prices on Hyundais at the Yahoo Autos site, Automotive.com, and on Ebay Motors. Always check with Kelly Blue Book (KBB.com) for the fair market value/price of used cars and be selective when buying. Lastly, have a certified Hyundai mechanic run a 20 point inspection on the car you ultimately want to buy to see if it passes. I've known several people who bought Hyundais on the secondary market and they are very happy with their purchases. Consumer Reports consistently rates Hyundai cars as reliable, durable, and safe.

Hyundai Parts:

When trying to find parts for your Hyundai, go online where there are plenty of wholesalers with huge inventories. We suggest ThePartsbin.com or Autopartsauthority.com with lots of selection for Hyundai owners. Hyundai dealers are top rated for customer service and should be able to fix anything on your car. There are dealers in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Dallas and every other major metro area in the U.S. You can check online at HyundaiUSA.com and do a lookup by ZIP code.
