Each year Consumer Reports (CR) does an issue on the "Best and Worse Cars" of the year. For 2008 they rated the Infiniti M35 as one of the "best" vehicles available and it scored higher than almost any other car in terms of their scores. Infiniti has been making the M35 since 2006 and the current model gets high praise from CR as well as other recognized car review sites like Edmunds.com and Automotive.com. The base model M35 is rear wheel drive and costs around $47,000 while the M35 X is a V6 AWD (all wheel drive) that is a bit more expensive (closer to $50,000). Safety and predicted reliability on the Infiniti M35 are the highest possible and the overall mileage is 18 miles per gallon (MPG). The titanium-valved 4.5 liter V8 engine puts out 325 horsepower with solid acceleration. The all-wheel drive (AWD) option on the M35 X is one of the intelligent and responsive systems in any car - it constantly adapts to road conditions that change.
In several reviews, the test drivers noted that the handling is first rate with the added bonus of Rear Active Steer which is found in the M Sport Package. The rear wheels are very much involved when turning on curves which makes for solid handling. The interior is well designed with plenty of room for the family - the front seats are praised for being "extemely comfortable" and the dash is well thought out and easy to access. The G35 sedan from Infiniti is just as impressive in tests and it too gets high ratings from magazines like Consumer Reports. The G35 starts at around $35,000 for the Journey RWD option and it's closest competitor is the Lexus ES 350 which sells for slightly more ($38615). CR, though, says the G35 gets top billing since it's "quick, taut, and agile". The other sedans in the G35 class are cars like the Acura TL, Toyota Avalon, VW Passat, and Nissan Maxima. In years past you might have expected brands like Mercedes or BMW to stand out, but they are not nearly as popular as they once were. As for the M35 X sedan, there are a few knocks against it like road noise and a high owner cost. Owner cost is associated with maintenance and upkeep required over the lifetime of owning the car. Some autos require more in fuel, taxes, insurance, etc. that don't reflect in the initial price at the showroom. In all the sedans that Consumer Reports rated in the $30,000+ categories, not one got a very good rating in terms of "owner cost", only those in the $25,000-$30,000 bracket got above average ratings. As for Infiniti, the performance of their sedans shows up in the surveys done by car websites and magazines for owner satisfaction and their vehicles continually rank very high. The knock against the Infiniti G35 is that is has a snug interior and a small trunk. Both sedans can be found online on the Infiiniti website HERE. On the site you can download high quality wallpaper images of the M35 and G35 along with other Infiniti cars. Their are reviews to read from top car experts, packages and options to choose from, and a comparison you can do against the competitors.
Reliability and Owner Satisfaction:
If you are a current owner of the M35 from Infiniti or want to buy one, perhaps the best independent site for you to visit is M35Forum.com. The forums are loaded with owner comments on performance, specs, repairs, and how to get rid of scratches on the paint. Don't get caught up in the hype that you read in all the reviews (although many are unbiased and true), read what owners have to say about their experience and see what others are paying to buy their new ones. You can download the 2006 Owners Guide in a PDF format or download the 1/2 dozen wallpaper images available on the site. The reliability rating that car experts give the M35 stand up in the forums as owners have lots of praise for the new model. As for the G35, they too have online websites dedicated to their owners. The best one is at G35driver.com that is loaded with information on future models, current sales (buying and leasing), and technical details on brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, engines, drivetrain, audio, video, and interior. The G35club.org is another site with specs on the 2008 model and an overview of past 2007 models.
Upkeep - Parts, Maintenance, and Repairs:
As we mentioned above, the overall cost of owning either the M35 or G35 is not cheap, although the other sedans priced above $30,000 are no better. If you are going to spend $50,000 on the M35 X then also consider the cost of ownership with things like insurance, maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep. Parts and repair bills can add up if you don't watch out eventhough the reliability of the Infiniti cars is good to excellent. If you do need parts for your M35 or G35 start at Infinitipartsusa.com - you can search by part number or category with their online catalog of parts.
