2006 and 2007 Lincoln Navigator - Review and Navigator Pictures

Lincoln, part of the Ford Motor family, has long been known for its moderately upscale vehicles. The Lincoln Continental was a classic from the 70's and 80's, and the Lincoln Town Cars came to dominate the New York City private driver vehicles throughout the 90's and into the 21st century - you can't walk down a street in midtown Manhattan without seeing 10 black Lincoln Town Cars lined up along the avenues. But the first real luxury SUV from Lincoln was the Navigator, a big hulking machine based on the engine and chassis of the Ford Expedition, itself big brother to the Ford Explorer. First produced in 1998, the Navigator added noise insulation and other finishing details on top of the Expedition, resulting in a luxury SUV with a quiet ride, solid off-road 4X4 performance when needed, and luxurious interior accoutrements.

The Navigators were also priced significantly higher than the Expedition, so this luxury did not come cheap. Over the years, Lincoln added features like retractable running boards, automatic raising and lowering when the vehicle turned on and off (to make it easier for smaller people to climb up into this beast!), and an innovative disappearing, folding 3rd row seat that could fold into the floor when storage space was need in the rear - prior to this, a bulky, 75+ pound "removable" bench seat had to be carried in and out of the Navigator.

Luxury SUV 4x4s - Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, Infiniti QX56, Range Rover

The 2006 Navigator competes with a good number of other high-end luxury 4x4 offerings from the likes of Cadillac, Infiniti, Range Rover, and Hummer. The Lincoln comes in several trim and function models: the 4x2 Luxury, the 4x2 Ultimate, the 4X4 Luxury, and the 4x4 Ultimate. The 2006 4x4 Luxury Navigator has an MSRP about $53K, with standard seating for 7, 9 speaker sound system with 6-CD player and MP3 player, a 5.4L V8 engine with 300 horse power, fornt and read disc brakes, a 118 in. wheel base, aluminum wheels, and 48 month / 50,000 mile warranty. A comparable Escalade lists for about 10% more. The Navigator 4x2 Luxury lists for about $50K, a 5% savings from the 4X4 model.

The Navigator is a sturdy working vehicle as well, capable of towing an 8600 pound load. The 2006 Navigator also comes with a smooth 6 speed automatic transmission, replacing the 4 speed transmission of prior generations. The interior of the Navigator is quite striking. The instrument panel has vibrant white LED lighting, they offer walnut burlwood and satin-nickel accents through the dash and interior, for a crisp, elegant look. The steering wheel is also trimmed in walnut and leather. A voice activated navigation system, with DVD and GPS mapping, is also an option as part of the high-end stereo packages. You can also get an overhead, drop down rear seat entertainment system DVD player - you can also plug in video games into the 7" LCD screen, complete with 2 sets of wireless headphones for entertaining your passengers in the back. Be sure to check out the optional power folding 3rd row seats - with a touch of a button, the rear bench seats fold and disappears into the floor for instant storage space - it is a great feature. In the second row, you have an option of 2 bucket seats (standard) or a 40/20/40 split bench for seating for 3, which can be switched at no additional cost.
