Mercedes Benz has made luxury cars for many generations now and they continue to innovate and improve upon a great formula of success. I bought a 1997 E420 a few years ago and can't talk enough about it. I have recently looked into their new line of E Class cars and was amazed with the changes in the last decade. The new E350 ($50825) is a luxury sedan with a V6 3.5 liter 24-valve engine that generates 268 horsepower. The interior is fitted with hand polished Burl walnut and the exterior is the usual sleek design that Mercedes is known for. The 2006 Mercedes Benz E350 has an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission which provides for a smooth and comfortable ride. The car can accelerate from zero to 60 in 6.5 seconds and fuel economy is reasonable with 19 city/26 highway. Safety is #1 in the minds of the engineers at Mercedes and all the latest airbags and passenger restraints are built into this automobile. The E350 Wagon is a 7 passenger vehicle with versatility in mind allowing for extra cargo space when needed yet still maintaining the luxury feel of the true Mercedes sedans with a beautiful interior and a flowing exterior. Priced at $53075, the 2006 E350 Wagon is worth taking a second look at if you need extra room, but don't want a minivan or larger SUV. The 2006 E320 CDI Sedan is a turborcharged diesel which gets up to 30% better gas mileage than comparable gasoline engines. The V6 diesel engine provides power (200+ HP), style, comfort and luxury sedan performance. The front and rear suspensions are tuned for road handling and smooth driving. With ABS and electrohydraulic braking capability, all situations on the road can be managed with control. The nine speaker audio system and 6 disc changer make the driving experience a relaxing one. The E420 is great for it extras power with the V8 engine and we are sad to say you know have to buy the E500 sedan to get that added horsepower. The 2006 E500 sedan is still priced below $60K ($59175) and comes with a highly tuned 5.0 liter V8 engine that gives you upwards of 300 horsepower through a 7-speed automatic transmission. Safety and luxury are 2 large components of the Mercedes Benz legendary car manufacturing and the E500 does not disappoint. The only bad news for Mercedes was during the late 1990's and early 2000-2002 when the customer satisfaction with their cars dropped to an all-time low. In recent years they have managed to improve the image again, but competitors like BMW and Lexus have stolen some of the market share in the luxury sedan category.

Mercedes E55 AMG:

The 2006 E55 AMG is stunning with sportscar looks and feel and still reasonably priced at $82575. I have riden in other luxury sports sedans and cars like the Audi RS6 or a Porsche Carrera and I still prefer the Mercedes AMG sedans. The E55 is built with an AMG V8 engine that generates 469 horsepower with a 5-speed automatic transmission that features AMG Speedshift and fingertip shift controls. The Airmatic dual-control suspension and Sensotronic brakes keep this car hugging the road even at high speeds. The E55 goes zero to 60 in 4.5 seconds (that's fast) and certainly can go well above 150 MPH. After some years of struggling with their reliability image, we feel that Mercedes Benz has righted the ship with their current lineup, especially the AMG series. The E55 AMG Wagon goes beyond the norm and sells for $82600. Most likely the E350 Wagon should suffice, but if you enjoy a sports car feel while driving the family on weekend getaways, then perhaps the E55 AMG Wagon will make the trip that much more enjoyable.

Mercedes Benz is one of the innovators of the Certified Pre-Owned programs whereby they took control of their brand name in the used car circles and helped keep the cars in their lots. They offer a complete diagnostic and inspection of the used cars and supply you with a warranty and roadside assistance if needed. Although you will pay more for a used Mercedes through a dealer, there are some perks that are hard to pass up like the 2.9% financing. Do the math and find out how much a private loan will cost you over 4-5 years and see if you will save money by buying from a 3rd party source. You can find plenty of selection on sites like Ebay Motors, Craigslist.org (that's where I found my Mercedes), or CarsDirect.com.
