High School Diploma and GED Programs For Home Schooling:

Without a high school diploma you will be living your life at a major disadvantage. High School is a time to make friends and grow up, but it's also a time to learn and get prepared for college. Dropping out of high school is a lifelong decision that most kids are too young to be making. I was lucky because my family was very supportive and in our household leaving high school early was not really an option. Whatever challenges you face in your teen years, you have to believe that staying in school is Very Important.Recent studies show that a high school graduate will make about $10,000 more a year compared to a high school drop out. Even more staggering are the numbers that show a college education will make somebody a $1 million more in a lifetime than someone without a college degree. Nowadays getting a good job is very competitive and sometimes almost scary when you see the qualifications of your competitors. We reviewed many of the different options people have for acquiring their high school diploma (GED) and we hope that our research will help keep you in school till you can earn a high school education of some kind. Even if you are considering going to some alternative schooling to learn a trade you should still get your high school education. Whatever you do, don't make any hasty decisions and be sure to really consider all your options.

Earn High School Diploma Or GED Online:

Do you want to get your high school diploma at home? Nowadays kids all across the country are considering staying at home to earn a high school degree. Homeschooling for teenagers has become more and more popular over the last 10 years. Getting your High School GED is another way to make up for not having a high school diploma. The GED test can be taken at any official test center and you can call 1-800-626-9433 to find the location nearest to you. Fees for taking the test can range from $25-$80 and you can register at any of the 3,000 nationwide locations. The test itself is intended to quiz you in the 5 main areas; reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. A good website for exam information and GED resources is at amby.com. When it comes time to select an online high school you will need to consider many things before you make a decision (it can be as important as picking an online college). We found a website that lists recognized accreditors at chea.org. Here is a list of things to look for when selecting an online high school
  • find an online accredited high school - not just a program with state approval
  • research the history of the online schools, how long have they been offering courses online
  • what can you afford - prices range from free to $10,000 and there are differences
  • how much teacher contact do you need, online schools offer a variety of contact options for students
  • watch out for fake schools because colleges require some verification from the online high schools
  • free programs are available by state departments of education, but most offer only courses and not diplomas
  • charter schools are typically free although most limit the students to high school aged kids

Why Is a High School Diploma Important?:

Why is a high school education so important? The answer is very long, but the simple answer is that a high school education will make your life a lot Easier in the long run. I have literally had over 100 jobs in my life (mind you some were only for 1 day) and there might have been only a few situations where they didn't ask if I graduated high school. If you have not gotten a high school degree (or some accredited high school diploma) then most people including potential employers will look at you as a risk. No college in the country will let you enroll either if you don't have a high school education (or something equivalent). We all know that once we turn 18 we become a supposed "adult" and from that point on we are legally responsible for ourself. Apart from the education side of things, a high school diploma is also important because while you earn it you will have time to work on your social skills. Eventually you need to get along with people in "the real world" and high school is a great platform to learn these valuable tools that you will have forever. You can't buy a high school diploma or print a fake high school diploma on your computer printer so you should accept the fact that high school is a necessary part of life. The other thing to consider is that if you do drop out of high school, what are you going to do with all your free time? Most teens that have extra spare time on their hands end up getting in trouble of some sort. Talk to your friends, family, teachers, anyone you can trust, and ask them to really explain to you the benefits of a high school diploma. You might be very surprised by what some of your mentors tell you about staying in school.

4 Year Plan High School Diploma:

The normal route for getting a high school diploma is to go to school for four years and earn enough credits to graduate. You will be required to take g.e. classes like math, history, etc., but you will also be able to choose classes (known as electives) like auto shop, ceramics, drafting, music, etc. I can't imagine not graduating high school and having all those memories with friends and family. High School for me was a lot of fun (I grew up in California near the beach) as most days were spent attending class and then hanging out with friends. My high school required that I took a minimum of 6 classes each semester until my senior year when I was able to just take 5 classes. My senior year was the best because I only went to school from 8:00 am until about 1:30 pm and my schedule was pretty easy with classes like History, English, Psychology, Ceramics, and Art. The reality is that without a high school diploma (or GED) you will not be able to attend college (even community college requires a high school education). Even if you were not planning on going to college you have to remember that without a high school degree it's going to be tough to find a job anywhere. It's an important decision to drop out of high school so make sure you really examine your options and talk to some past drop outs to see how their lives ended up. Studies show that past high school drop outs definitely regret their decision and would encourage kids today to Stay In School. I know that high school can be a drag, but you have to enjoy your youth and the free education because once you turn 18 years old nobody is going to be giving you anything for free. The standard 4 years of high school is certainly not the fast way to get a high school diploma and it does require a little work and patience. Many kids leave high school for reasons like pregnancy, family problems, money problems, or behavioral issues, and though these are major problems you should always find a way to get your diploma or GED. For more information on getting a high school degree in 4 years check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4-year_plan. High school is important so Don't Give Up On Yourself and Your Dreams!
