Lego Set Reviews and Buying Guide:I remember playing with legos long before there were custom sets with people, castles, trains, and themed legos like Star Wars, Harry Potter or Batman. We used to place legos on the platforms/boards they came with and build boats with battering rams and try to smash each others boat to pieces. They never used to have lego instructions and "how to build" things with the lego boxes we used to buy. The lego sets today are great, they give kids a chance to turn lego making into a craft and make neat designs like dragons, horses, spaceships, etc. Legos also come in a variety of sizes, some are big for littler kids so that putting them together isn't too hard and they also have much smaller lego sets for intricate designs that require adept skills for the more advanced lego user. Lego sets are also fairly expensive with many costing upwards of $60-$100. We will discuss pricing, the top lego sets, and user reviews below.
Lego.com - Online Games and Downloads:I want to say that Lego.com has done a great job of making an entertaining and well thought out website. You can join the Lego Club and play games online like the Brick Game, Racers Supersonic, Maze Game, Speed Chamber and dozens more. Just signup online and get access to downloads, games, and buildits. Lego.com has an excellent collection of desktop wallpapers (Mindstorms, Bionicle Avak, Knights Kingdom, and Ferrari), screensavers (Star Wars, Exoforce, Make and Create, First Lego League), and the online activities help you build legos "like the pros". They have individual download sections for Lego Racer, Dino Attack, Lego Soccer, Knights Kingdom, and activities downloads. I thought the area with comics & movies was fun for kids too. Legoland in California (San Diego Area):Legoland is located in Carlsbad, California just a little north of San Diego and south of Los Angeles. The park offers fun rides with Lego themes and kids areas with huge rooms of legos to build and create whatever they want. Some of the rides are Pirate Shores, Fairy Tale Brook - Explore Vilage, Legoland Express, Coast Cruise, Safari Trek, Flight Squadron, Sky Patrol, Coastersaurus, and Sky Cruiser. I did find that some of the rides height requirements will a little strict for my little 3 year old. The park is closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays during certain months and operating hours are 10 AM to 8 PM at peak season. You can find out all the details on tickets and rides HERE. If you are looking for a diversion from San Diego or a day off from Disneyland, Legoland is a good alternative.
