Pinball Machine Reviews and Buying Guide:

How many of use grew up playing pinball machines in local pizza parlors or in game arcades? Although technological advancements have changed many other types of video games and arcade games, the pinball machine has stayed pretty much the same with the basic idea of keeping the ball in play. To keep things interesting, pinball machine designers and manufacturers have constantly tried to create new themes to the pinballs and add various gadgets within the game itself. It's getting harder and harder to find quality pinball machines anymore as gaming arcades no longer exist with classic video games and the latest generation of kids aren't even interested unless there is shooting and destruction on the screen. I remember when I was growing up and visiting a friend of my parents that had a pinball machine in his home and I thought that was amazing. Today, thousands of people own home pinball machines as they have become cheaper to buy and more available on the used market.

There are several online stores that sell new pinball machines and most are $5000+ (at least for the good titles). That's a pretty good sized investment for just a game, but having looked online recently at Ebay, we found some vintage pinball machines that sell for $1000's still. The real question is "how durable is a new pinball machine?" and "what do repairs cost?". We did some online research at pinball machine sites and in gaming forums to see what pinball machine owners had to say. For the most part, they were happy with their purchases and didn't mention any particular brand or game that had repair issues. The Pinball Resource (Pbresource.com) is a great site for learning about the care and maintenance of your pinball machine and it also helps you locate and find manuals and new parts from Williams, Bally/Midway, Stern Pinball, and Gottlieb. The technical support is first rate and the knowledge base goes back for decades on older pinball machines. As for purchasing or buying a pinball machine, we suggest going to Sternpinball.com. They carry all the newest pinball machines like The World Poker Tour, Nascar, the Simpsons, The Lord of the Rings, and of course the latest creation, Pirates of the Caribbean. You can talk directly to one of their distribution reps and get it sent to your house or business right away. Another site we found very helpful is at Ipdb.org (Internet Pinball Database) - their pinball skills area offers some great tips on double flipper hits, backhands, traps, shaking/nudging, drop stops, flip trap, and redirection. The database has close to 5000 pinball games listed. RECOMMENDED - We suggest shopping online at Amazon.com since they carry many of the leading brands and often have the lowest prices on the Internet. You can browse their most popular pinball machines here.

Best Pinball Machines:

We went to Bmigaming.com to find out just which pinball games are the best sellers and most popular. The top rated pinball machines are the Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball ($4675) with 4 player capability and characters from the 2 Disney movies, Grand Prix Pinball Machine ($4675) - fun racing and F1 themed game, The Lord of the Rings Pinball ($4675) - includes elements from all 3 LOTR movies, collect the elf rings the dwarf rings and the Mortal men rings to complete the game. Other popular games are the Monopoly pinball machine, NASCAR pinball machine, The Simpsons Pinball Party, and the World Poker Tour pinball machine. All the Stern pinball machines listed here come with a 3 year electronic warranty, free lifetime support and nationwide on-site service. If you have to buy new, then go with a Stern machine, although we found many happy owners of used pinball machines that sell for half the cost. Much like any game, you can easily get bored after a few months of playing and potentially mastering it, so people sell used pinball machines at huge discounts compared to brand new ones. See the used pinball machine buying guide below. RECOMMENDED - For a list of the top rated Stearn pinball machines go here.

Used Pinball Machine Sales:

There are lots of places to buy used pinball machines both online and in brick and mortar stores. We found a good website for used pinballs at http://www.carobinson.com/used/pinballs2.htm - their current inventory includes a Bally Pinball 2000 (Star Wars Episode I) for $2995, a Bally & Williams Pinball Machine (Terminator 3) for $3295, a Data East Jurassic Park Pinball Machine for $2595, the Sega Star Wars Trilogy Pinball for $2595, and the Stern Monopoly pinball machine for $3695. Thepinballcompany.com is another excellent source for used pinball machines like the Addam's Family ($4850), Attack from Mars ($4350), Austin Powers ($3650), Godzilla ($2850 and Harley-Davidson ($3550). Ebay is the online auction site where you bid on used items like pinball machines. It's a great place to see what prices vintage and used pinball machines are actually selling for to get an idea what you will have to pay. Check out the top selling used pinball machines on Amazon.com here.

Online Pinball:

Thepinballzone.net is the best website we could find with online pinball games you can play without downloading anything. They also have pinball downloads available. If you do a search on Google for "online pinball games" you get results for a Starsky and Hutch Movie pinball game, Nabisco has online pinball games, and Gametap.com has a whole collection of free pinball games online. Most of the games have you use your space bar or "shift" or "control" keyboard buttons to hit the ball and maneuver it. They are free and can be addictive, I played one of them for about an hour trying to get a high score.
