Comic Books - Comic Collectors

Comic books have fascinated kids and comic collectors for decades. Before the days of TV and movies, these mini adventure serials entertained and enthralled countless comic fans, bringing them back week after week to continue the adventure. For those nostalgia buffs who were wise enough to save their early comic book collection, many have found gold as the value of original comics has skyrocketed. Value of comic books depends on many factors - how rare they are, how popular they are, how old they are, and what condition they are in. A comic book that once cost 10 cents 50 years ago might well be worth $10,000 today. For comic book collectors, the internet has made it much easier to buy and sell comics for their collections.

Collecting comic books

Just like with baseball cards, part of the joy of comic books is buying, selling, and trading to fill out entire series and collections. Thanks to sites like Ebay, it is now much easier to find specific editions you are looking for, and it is easier to find buyers for your rarer comic books. Prior to Ebay, you had to hang out at your local comic book shops or swap meets, checking out what comics were new, what the prices were for trading older comic books, and so forth. But with Ebay, suddenly thousands and thousands of comic book fans are able to mix and match in real time, viewing and pricing thousands of different comics. Ebay has a huge section of collectible comics from the Golden Age (1938-55), Silver Age (1956-69), and Bronze Age (1970-79). The Golden Age comics include things like Dick Tracy, Lone Ranger, Superman, Sherlock Holmes, Disney comics, Dennis the Menace, and much more. The Silver Age brings us to Spiderman, Thor, Wonder Woman, The Avengers, Batman, Green Hornet, Ironman, and much more. The Bronze Age includes X-Men, Conan, Superman, and more.

The Modern Age of Comics if from 1980-today. For real collectors, Ebay has been a godsend for comics, making a vast inventory of collectible comics available that would have been near impossible to find before the internet age.

Buying Comics Online - Best Comic Book Shops

Apart from trading or searching for comic books and graphic novels on Ebay, there are also many online comic book stores that carry both current releases and collectible editions. MyComicShop.com sells a variety of comic book related products: comics, games, action figures, toys, graphic novels, and more. Orders over $50 are eligible for free shipping.

Selling a comic book collection - Comic Collectors

How can I sell my comic book collection? You need to be informed about the value of your comic book collection and the sales process before moving too far down this path. Metropolis Comics has a good article on how to sell a comic book collection. Here is a sample quote: "Potential buyers will be most concerned with the retail value of your entire collection, which will be more or less than Guide depending what you have and their current demand. Some rare early books in VF or NM may bring a price over Guide list while other titles in lower grade may well sell for a price under Guide list. Many vintage books, however, will sell for around the Guide price. However, 1980s or 1990s books that list at cover price may only be worth a percentage of that price. You must then decide on what percentage you would be willing to accept for your collection, taking into account how the collection breaks down into fast, moderate and slow moving books. To expect someone to pay full retail is unrealistic. You will have to be flexible in order to close a deal. Many buyers will want to purchase only certain key or high grade books from your collection..." Check out the whole article here. Metropolis also buys vintage comics from collectors - enquire with them if you would like to work with them. They buy over $4M worth of comic collections each year and also handle assignment sales. They have been helping comic collectors for more than a decade - good people to work with.

Showcase New England is another buyer of comic collections (ShowcaseNE.com). They have a pretty solid pedigree: Senior Advisor to the Overstreet Annual Price Guide, Member AACBC Authenticity, Certification and Grading Committee, CGB Customer Service Award, 7 Consecutive Years, Christie's Authenticity, Certification and Grading Committee, Sotheby's Authenticity, Certification and Grading Committee. You can trust your comics are in good hands when they value it. They buy mainly pre-1980 collections, usually with more than 1000 comics. They are big on all superhero comics from before 1960. Comics from the 60's need to be in semi-complete runs for consideration.
