Halloween Decorations

Halloween is one of the most celebrated holidays in the US, normally just behind Christmas and Thanksgiving in terms of popularity and planning. Coming at the end of the harvest season, the crisp air of fall is a welcoming sign that Halloween is not far behind. Halloween celebrations usually take on several forms - parties, house decoration, costumes, and trick or treating. Most of us are used to seeing seasonal Halloween stores pop up around the mall or nearby shopping areas, carrying fake blood, vampire teeth, cobwebs, spooky music CDs, skull-shaped lights, candy, and much more. Below, we will take a look at some ideas for Halloween parties and decorations, and find out the best places online to buy Halloween supplies and decor.

Where can I buy Halloween Supplies?

If you don't feel like braving the crowded and crazy (and often sold-out) local Halloween supply stores, try visiting some of the good online stores. HalloweenMagazine.com has all kinds of great Halloween information, ideas, and products. Their Halloween decorations include things like animated props and decor, like a sorceress head inside a crystal ball for just $58, or some colorful bubbling test tubes for $29, or a zombie climbing out of a grave for $26 or a talking pirate head for $26. As you can see, it is easy to get carried away and spend a small fortune if you really want to decorate your yard, porch, or home for Halloween. They also have body parts, rubber insects and rodents, Halloween lights and glow in the dark decorations. Their collection of scary creatures include ravens perched on tombstones ($17), 20" tall black cats ($9), vultures, and of course vampire bats. For yard decorations they have skeletons breaking out of the ground ($24), an airblown graveyard with tombs ($72), and the famous witch crashed against a wall or tree for $16.

Haunted House Supplies and Decorations

Another fun site is SpiritHalloween.com, which highlights a running countdown of the hours and minutes until Halloween, just to get you into the shopping mood. They have some pretty amazing Halloween supplies and decorations. We loved their hanging scarecrow head and the head hanging from a giant hook ($25 each) and the grim reaper archway for placing over a door people must walk through ($80). The $13 gelatin brain molds were also highly original and would make a great addition to any haunted house. If you are building a haunted house and have a little more to spend, something like the $69 bleeding head in a lit up water tank would be the highlight of any mad scientist room, as would the corpse fountain that spouts and endless trickle of blood ($100). Apart from the scary stuff, they also offer a section on Halloween Recipes (carmel apples, eyeball eggs, toxic waste Halloween punch) and Halloween crafts (masks, tombstones, tissue ghosts, skeletons) and Halloween Game and Party Tips (monster smash, bobbing for apples, Halloween themed cookies, dry ice, etc.) They also carry a full selection of Halloween masks and costumes, perfect for adult and children trick or treaters. Standard shipping times in the US are about 5-7 days, so be sure to order with enough time to get your goodies before Halloween.

Halloween Parties

Halloween parties are always a blast, whether for children or adults. For kids, the focus should be on games, costumes, crafts and decorations, and of course snacks and treats. For games, you can Pin the Skull on the Skeleton, bob for apples, or play Freeze Dance (dance until the music stops, then freeze - if you move when the music is off, you lose). For smaller kids, making their own Halloween crafts and souvenirs is always popular. You can make jack-o-lanterns out of paper plates and scissors and paints, you can paint creepy masks, you can cut out shapes of black cats and witchs to hang on windows, and much more. For Halloween party supplies, visit your local Party City store. They are always fully stocked on holiday items, so you will find cheap Halloween supplies like napkins, cups, places, streamers, decorations for hanging on walls, party favors, etc. Adult Halloween parties are usually focussed on costumes (which may be a bit more risque), food, and drinks. You can find a variety or recipes for "Halloween Drinks" at Webtender.com - delights like the Witchs Brew, the Vampire's Kiss, the Neon Ghost, and and Brain Hemmorage. Games for adults tend to be a little more hit and miss - but good spooky Halloween decor never fails, so check out the supply stores mention above and splurge a little on some scary or gory surprises for your guests.
