Best Online Dating Sites:

The world of dating became a lot easier with the online dating services which have flourished over the last decade. Some people are still reluctant to date online and meet singles, but the vast majority of those "looking for love" have dabbled with dating websites and tested the waters. Online personals have attracted millions of participants and matchmaking experts have put together compatibility parameters to help single adults find online love. It's as easy as logging into your favorite dating website and posting your own personal profile online. Then, you watch as all the responses come in (or not). Most internet dating services are free - you can upload your profile and post it on the site. In order to respond to those that are interested in dating you, you must pay a fee. So, adult dating online is essentially free to try and costs money if you want to seal the deal and meet someone. Does online dating work? - So far there have been hundreds of single adults that met online who eventually got married. eHarmony for one claims that every day 236 of their members get married. I have 2 friends that used their dating service and have since gotten married. My brother, used Match.com and he too was married within a few years. The real question is - Will these marriages last any longer than those of people who met through friends or traditional dating avenues.

The one thing I can say is that amongst my half dozen friends and family members that have tried online dating, the vast majority say it is far superior than the 8 Minute Dating or It's Just Lunch dating services that cost money. Not all dating websites are meant to be for lasting relationships - some are just for casual meetings and no strings attached nights out. You will have to determine what you are looking for and sign up with the websites that fit your needs. Match.com and eHarmony are the 2 most well respected websites for internet dating in terms of people looking for long term, committed relationships. Yahoo Personals has been around for a long time and still gets a fair share of daily visitors browsing their listings. I guess that's the fun part of dating online - you through yourself out to millions of potential respondents and see just what type of guys or girls you attract based on your profile. Many people prefer the online dating scene compared to the old style of "blind dates" and "meeting for the first time" without any background information. With online dating you can exchange emails, photos, etc. and really get to know someone before actually going on a date with them. The biggest dilemma that singles come across is the potential of meeting someone online that doesn't live close enough to but you still want to date them. There's no guarantee you'll meet the man of your dreams living right in your town. You can limit the distance in which you are willing to travel to meet someone, but that's ultimately up to you. I have friends that have dated people from Seattle (we live in Portland, OR) and thought nothing of it while others won't drive more than 20 minutes.

Christian Online Dating:

The one thing that is totally possible with online dating is that you can essentially weed out all those people you would never date based on race, religion, etc. In a strange way you can discriminate against a whole set of people before even meeting them. There are countless dating websites setup for people that just want to date Christians, Hispanics, Asians, you name it. Most of the larger online dating services offer a way to filter for "just seniors" or "African American women". Perhaps the most popular specific dating category is that for Christians. Christian online dating is huge and there is big bucks in it.

Yahoo Personals:

You can search for free and add a profile for free (unlike some of the other sites that pressure you right away to create a profile and signup). Yahoo Personals are $15.99 a month for 6 months, $19.99/mo. for 3 months, or $29.99/mo. if you want to do it monthly. They run an auto-renew on your credit card each billing cycle so be sure to cancel when you are done, otherwise you will get an unwanted bill. As a subscriber, you are in control of your dating life. That means you can send and receive email and instant messages to anyone you're interested in. Although Yahoo Personals has been around a long time, it doesn't have the same recognition and power as do the other sites like Match.com or eHarmony which have advertised their services quite well.

Online Dating:

Match.com is the world's largest online dating network. With almost 26 million members you are sure to see something you like. They offer a 1, 3 or 6 month plan and prices vary on which one you go with ($34.99-$101.94). Match.com boosts they have inspired twice as many marriages as any other dating site (no data on how many divorces have followed). They offer tips on conversation, when to actually meet in person, how to keep it safe, and advice from celebrities on dating (not sure that is worth much these days). There is instant pressure to signup instead of allowing you to browse for free like it should be. Their service is offered in 24 countries and they've been around since 1995. You can launch your free profile with up to 26 photos. All your private information is kept confidential until you decide to release it to an interested party.

Internet Dating - Is It Safe?:

I would have to say that meeting someone online is only slightly more dangerous than meeting them in real life such as through friends. It all comes down to common sense. Don't meet your date in a strange place the first time you actually go out. Always drive yourself and try going to a public spot where you know it to be a safe environment. Don't believe everything you read online in their profile as they could easily lie. Remember, they are trying to attract people and often men (and women) will fudge the truth about themselves in order to find a mate. In the real world of dating their is more at stake since often friends set other friends up or co-workers go out. There is a human connection which makes the situation safer than just meeting any old person off the Internet. You hear stories of underage girls being tricked online by older (predators) men. There's always the potential for any situation to become awkward - so be prepared in case things go wrong. A friend of mine used to always make a phone call during her first dates to a trusted friend just so they knew she was ok and doing fine. It's probably not a bad idea to have a simple plan like that and make sure that someone knows where you are going on the date (at least the first few).
