Nail Polish Buying Guide and History:

One of the biggest selling items in the cosmetic industry is nail polish. Look around tomorrow at work and you will quickly realize that most women wear some form of nail polish. The art of applying color to fingernails started around 3000 B.C. The mixture of ingredients they use to make nail polish has gone through many changes, including using colored lacquer and henna dyes. Nail polish really is a fashion statement of sorts, but if you wear the wrong color you can really affect your social status. Some of the popular nail polish products are made by Opi, Zoya, Orly, Chanel, Revlon, MAC, Loreal, and Maybelline. Wearing a certain color nail polish can really set the "right mood" which could be anything from a work atmosphere to a big 1st date. Nowadays women spend millions of $ at nail salons getting a manicure so they don't mind spending a little extra money to paint their nails. French manicures (where your nails have a natural color and white at the tips) are another popular choice among women who don't want to get creative with their nails. We reviewed some of the top selling nail polish products available today and hopefully we can save you some time.

Opi Nail Polish:

Opi is one of the biggest manufacturers of nail polish in the world. They make a variety of nail polish colors in different collections like Deliciously Dark, Chicago, Australian, and The Brights Collection. You can find some good deals on Opi products at www.beautydeals.net where we found some of their best nail polish on sale for just $6.00. Opi makes a ton of products so we just reviewed some of their top sellers. 1. OPI The Classics Collection Malaga Wine L87 Nail Polish - a nice rich color, almost looks like red mixed with pink. 2. OPI Red Like Roses Collection Heart of Gold - gives any woman a unique style, a soft gold dust sprinkled in a clear shimmer makes this polish very appealing - $6.00. 3. OPI So Deliciously Dark Collection! Black Onyx - great black nail polish, for those women who want the dark striking look - $6.00. 4. OPI The Australian Collection Fair Dinkum Pinkum A43 - sexy and innocent at the same time, any woman (young or old) can wear this polish, sparkling pink in color - $6.00.

Nail Polish For Dogs, Kids, and Men:

As crazy as it seems people nowadays are putting nail polish on their kids and pets, even some men are wearing nail polish. When it comes to a man wearing nail polish it's usually a musician, actor, or some rebellious kid who wants to make a statement. Men commonly wear black nail polish because I guess they think it's the most masculine color there is (pink or red would look pretty funny on a guy). If you want to see some pictures of men who painted their nails then search for "pictures of men with nail polish" on Google and you will find some amazing pics. Applying nail polish to your pets is no longer considered "insane", it's not 100% normal, but it is now fairly common in places like Los Angeles and New York (cities that are trendy). Dog.com had some cool nail polish for sale to help make your pet feel human. I can't imagine painting my dogs nails because my dog is huge (about 85 lbs) and it would be impossible to hold her long enough. The "Quick Dry Nail Polish" sells for $5 a bottle and comes in a variety of colors like plum, white, copper, silver, and gold sparkle. All the customer feedback said this is a great product for pets and that it's very easy to apply. If you are thinking about painting nail polish on your children then just remember that kids are messy and you don't want them to get polish on the carpets, walls, or even their clothes. Personally I'd say that kids should be at least 12 or 13 years old before they start to worry about make up and nail polish, but after looking at the kids in my neighborhood it seems that most parents don't agree.

Choosing The Right Nail Polish:

When you become a teenager and start wearing nail polish it can be quite confusing to pick the right one. They make nail polish in so many colors (red, pink, yellow, green, blue, clear, etc.) and styles like glitter and glaze. Once you pick the look you want to portray then you need to decide on what brand you want to buy. Loreal, Maybelline, Mac, Lippman, and Chanel are just some of the big names that dominate the nail polish industry. If you have never worn nail polish before you might want to buy a few different brands and see what works best on your fingers and toes. We have listed some of the things to consider before buying that hot pink nail polish, or that gothic black polish that your parents hate. Even though nail polish is just a temporary thing and it can be in minutes, it's still a good idea to plan ahead and avoid any unnecessary drama.
  • Do you have a job or attend school where they have rules about hair color, nail polish, tattoos, etc.
  • What image do you want to portray, red nail polish is usually for younger women that like to look sexy
  • Black nail polish is typically considered dark, scary, and even unpredictable
  • Does your boyfriend or husband care about your nails, get their input before you make any decisions

Red Nail Polish?:

As we all know red is a very sexy, fiery, hot color! When you paint your nails red (fingers and toes) there's a definite possibility that your "wild side" will want to come out and play. Red nail polish can make any woman feel sexy and vibrant, but you need to buy the right shade of red that matches your personality. Essie makes a cool looking red nail polish called "A-List" that we found for sale at www.drugstore.com. A 5oz. bottle sells for just $5 and they have other shades of red to choose from like Red Label, Bing O' Cherry, and Watermelon. Their website also lists all the ingredients that are found in the nail polish they sell which is something that a lot of people seem to care about.

Nail Polish Remover:

Once you apply that sexy looking nail polish, just remember that you will need to use a nail polish remover to get rid of it (unless you want to let it peel off which looks tacky). The old fashioned way of removing nail polish is to buy a bottle of it (about $7 ) from Cutex, Opi, Pretty Nails, and use a cotton swab to rub away the polish. It's actually pretty easy to remove nail polish (certainly easier than applying it) and even little kids can handle the task - with some supervision of course. Nowadays they sell some handy nail polish remover pads that are so convenient to use for under $5. Each pad (which can clean all 10 nails) is coated with a special material to help strengthen and softer your cuticles while you wipe away the nail polish. The website www.americarx.com had some great deals on nail polish removers and supplies.
