Work Boot Reviews and Buying Guide:

Buying a quality work boot is not as easy as say going shopping for a pair of running shoes. Work boots need to protect you on the job and hopefully help prevent injuries while you are working. There are many types including slip resistant boots, steel toe boots, waterproof boots, insulated boots (when working in an electrical area), and soft toe boots. Steel toe work boots are probably the most common since many blue collar workers deal with heavy equipment, objects, and machinery that could really hurt your foot if it happens to fall on it. You will find certain models are designed for specific careers like farmers, loggers, roofers, mechanics, miners, and construction crews. Expect to spend at least $75 and upwards of $200 for a solid pair of work boots. The top brands are Red Wings, Ariat, Timberland, Caterpillar, Rocky, Doc Marten, Magnum, Dickies, Carhartt, Danner, and Georgia Boot. You can browse the most popular work boots online here.

What should you look for in a work boot?. Experts agree on several features that you should consider when buying a work boot. First, they need to be comfortable since you will probably be on your feet for a good part of the day. Many of the newer boots for work have soft impact zones in the midsole, a soft EVA insole, and a removeable polyeurathane footbed. Padding is a key if you want your feet to last throughout the day. Also, the construction of the shoe itself needs to be durable and safety minded. Alternatives to steel toe boots are those that have composite or aluminum alloy. Look for OHSA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) approved boots so you are ensured of having the ultimate toe protection possible. If you ever want to get your boots resoled, you have to go with the double stitch welt construction. Alternatives include the cementing of the upper portion to the outer sole with glue and direct attach boots where the outsole and upper section are molded together. Direct attach boots last the longest due to a superior bond, but you can't resole them like the welt construction variety. Soles that are slip resistant are best for anyone working in areas that are wet or even oily. Also, if you will be in outdoor temperatures that are frigid, go with the best insulated pair of boots you can find to keep your feet warm and comfortable. Most boot manufacturers only make men's work boots, although a few do carry womens sizes. We found some great online reviews posted at Contractortalk.com, Cabelas.com, and in the Answers section of the Yahoo website. Like almost any other product, you get arguments for and against the different brands of work boots. Two brands that did stand out were the Red Wing boots and those from Timberland. Carpenters, cement layers, roofers, hunters, and landscapers all favored these work shoes and they use them daily so they should know. You can browse the top rated work boots online here.
