It is a permanent commitment. Porcelain veneers are also more expensive than resin. Some people also experience sensitivity due to the enamel that is stripped from the tooth. If your porcelain veneer breaks or chips, you have to replace it with a new one. This can be a time consuming and costly process. The Process of Getting Dental Veneers - The first step to getting dental veneers is to decide on what kind of veneers you will choose. Resin veneers are thinner and less of the tooth needs to be removed. While it is a more involved dental procedure to get a porcelain veneer, these veneers look more like natural teeth in the end. Once you and your dentist have decided on the right veneer, you will get x-rays and impressions. Your dentist will remove a small amount of your tooth enamel to match the thickness of your veneer. Your impressions will be sent off to a lab where it takes a few weeks to process them. Once you come back for your second appointment, your dentist shapes the veneer to fit to your tooth. The color of your tooth is also matched. There is a special bonder that keeps the veneer on your tooth. It is almost like cement. The final step involved a light beam, which allows the bonding material to harden onto your tooth.

How Much Does a Dental Veneer Cost? - Veneers can be quite expensive, and, of course, the price will increase considerably based on how many you get. Dental veneers are rarely covered by insurance. A porcelain veneer can cost anywhere between $900-$2500 per tooth. On the other hand the resin composite veneers cost usually $250- $1000 per tooth. It is also important to consider that porcelain veneers last about twice as long as resin composites on average. What Are Lumineers? - Lumineers are an alternative to a regular veneer. They are ideal for people who hate the dentist because no dental work is involved. Additionally, unlike veneers, lumineers are reversible. They also last for 20 years or more. Lumineers are made out of a different kind of porcelain called "Cerinate." This special material allows for these veneers to be easily removed. Lumineers cost between $700-$1000 per tooth. What else is important to note in comparing lumineers vs. veneers? Well, lumineers are thinner than veneers. While this definitely has its benefits, it also makes them more likely to chip or crack.
