Choosing the Right Scarf:

Scarves are one of the most popular accessory items in a womens wardrobe. Reason #1 being that you can follow the latest trends with a single scarf and not have to buy a whole new outfit just to look good and fashionable. A scarf can add lots of color or patterns to regular outfits and really draw attention to your face and head area. For purposes of this review, we have classified scarves into 3 categories - fashion, fun, and function. The main purpose for buying a scarf is for fashion (at least for women) so you need to consider what type of clothing you will be wearing with the scarf so that it matches properly. Think about your skin type or the coat you will be wearing with the scarf so you can blend the 2 together. The current fashion trend is to wear smoother scarves with thicker coats and coarser scarves with thinner coats. For men, when you wear a suit to work, consider a cashmere scarf with a wool trench coat, a blue scarf with a gray suit, or a green scarf with a black suit. Wearing a scarf for function is another category - whether you are up on the ski slopes or walking through the streets of Chicago on a wintery day. The point here is to make sure you neck and head area stay warm during those cold winter days and a wool knitted scarf should do the job. Colorful, fun scarfs are best worn by women, although some men can get away with certain colors if it's appropriate to their outfit. Below we will go into the various types of scarfs and the major brand names.

You might think, how many types of scarves could there be? Plenty. There are designer scarves, head scarves, shawls, wraps, pashmina scarves, neck scarf, fur scarves, silk scarves, scarf belt, spring scarves, and mens or womens scarves. and cashmere scarves. With all the colors, patterns, and materials available, you should be able to find something that fits your personal style and fashion. The one great thing about scarves is that they go with anything from ski coats to pea coats and can be worn during the spring, summer, fall, or winter. The top designer scarves are made by Burberry, Coach, Hermes, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi, and Pucci. A good quality Italian made scarf can be around $300 while some of the shawls, capes, and stoles can be upwards of $1000. Most satin, chiffon silk, velvet, and pashmina scarves cost between $30 and $150 from online stores like Fashionscarvesandshawls.com, Neimanmarcus.com, and ELuxury.com. We went to these sites to see which brands are the best sellers and visited fashion forums on the Internet to read what women are saying about the newest and latest scarves in the fashion industry.

Designer Scarfs:

AS with any accessory item for women these days, it seems that designer brands sell really well (purses, handbags, scarves, hats, shoes). We found this to be true with the scarf market too. A Burberry scarf is one of the most coveted scarves searched for online and most are made of cashmere or wool in both Italy and England. The majority of Burberry scarves sell between $170 and $350 and come in a variety of colors and patterns. The Burberry Multi Pom scarf and the Giant Check Scarf are very popular along with the Cashmere Muffler and Cowl Toggle Scarf. You can find all the newest Burberry scarves online at Burberry.com. Some of the best sellers at Nordstroms.com are the Nordstrom Pashmina Scarf ($44) - an excellent cashmere silk blend, the Juicy Couture 'School of Couture' Scarf ($95), and the Echo Pucker Scarf ($48). Hermes is another designer company that produces scarves and their silk twill scarf sells for $320. Coach scarves can be found online at Coach.com and they carry neck scarves, ponytail scarves, and oblong scarves. All these designer scarves are beautiful and certainly luxurious, but the big word of caution to online buyers is that they should beware of fakes and replicas. We found many designer scarves listed on Ebay and other second hand websites which may have fake designer items. Most scarves are not that expensive (as compared to handbags) but still be careful when purchasing any designer item not sold directly from the manufacturer or official reseller.

Hip Scarfs:

Belly dancers wear hip scarfs for their dancing, but hip scarfs are not just for them. Much like a shawl or warp, a hip scarf can make a wonderful addition when wearing jeans or skirts. They can be lavish and exotic or just plain eccentric. As we mentioned earlier in the review, scarves can be worn for fun and hip scarves are just an example of that. You can view and purchase hip scarves online at Missbellydance.com.
