Many banks allow online bill pay through their websites. You need an account with online access and then it's pretty simple. Just setup the companies you need to pay each month and the bank takes care of the rest (as long as there is money in the account). It used to be that banks charged for bill pay, but recently major banking institutions like Wells Fargo, Chase, and Washington Mutual have moved towards free online bill pay services as a marketing tactic. Check with your bank and see what they offer, you may be surprised how easy it can be to pay bills online.
Paying bills online?:
If you have noticed lately, almost all bills that come in the mail give you an insert that talks about paying them online and eliminated late fees and postage stamps by always being able to get the payment on time. Cell phone companies are at the top of this list for easy bill pay (Metro PCS, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Nextel). VISA and Mastercard companies also have pushed towards online bill pay for your monthly credit card bills. AmericanExpress, Capital One, Chase, etc all have easy online payment areas where you can take care of your bill right on their secure website. Instead of worrying about mailing your bills ontime each month, sign up for bill pay services with your telephone provider, cell phone company, credit card company or banking institution to simplify the process.
Yahoo Bill Pay
Yahoo bill pay is the easiest way to manage your bills. All you need is a checking account to get started. Schedule payments, store your payment history, and get email reminders. Yahoo offers 2 plans: The Basic Plan gives you unlimited payments to over 100 billers (VISA, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, cell phone companies, utility companies, etc). Their Premium Plan lets you pay anyone, anytime. Save money on stamps, envelopes and late fees. You can receive bill electronically from over 200 billers and your bills will be paid on the date you set. They currently offer the first 3 months for free and then it's just $4.95/month. We feel that the monthly feel will come down as more companies offer free bill pay services and force the competition down on price.
Bill pay kiosk:
Kiosks that accept bill paying are popping up all over. Many cell phone retail stores like Cingular Wireless, Sprint PCS, Verizon, accept payments through these kiosks in their stores. Companies have partnered with convenience stores like 7-Eleven to put in 1000+ bill pay kiosks that accept payments. I'm sure we will see more of these bill pay kiosks pop up in malls, gas stations, and grocery stores in the next few years. Much like ATM machines that you see everywhere, why not have bill pay kiosks all over to make it as easy as possible on consumers.
