Tummy Tucks - Tummy Tuck Surgery:

What is a Tummy Tuck and Why Get One? A Tummy Tuck is also referred to as abdominoplasty. This is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed. Reportedly, of all plastic surgery procedures, people are most pleased with the end results of their tummy tuck. So why get a tummy tuck? People typically get this operation to get rid of loose skin, fat deposits, and stretch marks. This can be due to pregnancies or just genetics. Of course, if you have fat deposits it first makes sense to diet and exercise. That is only common sense. However, the people who end up opting for tummy tucks are those who have found that despite diet and exercise, it was impossible for them to get rid of their disproportionately large abdominal area. When you get a tummy tuck, your loose skin and fat deposits will be removed. If there are stretch marks present, those will also be removed during the procedure. The doctor tightens abdominal muscles that run vertically. In the procedure, the skin and fat is separated from the abdominal wall and the abdominal muscles are exposed. The muscles are then sutured closer together creating a firmer abdominal wall and slimmer waist. There are actually two types of abdominoplasty: full tummy tucks and partial tummy tucks. During a full tummy tuck, two incisions are made. One incision is above the pubic area and the other around the navel. On the other hand, a partial tummy tuck only requires one incision.

You can also watch an Abdominoplasty/Tummy Tuck Surgery Video which has had over had a million views (see it below - But be forewarned, this video is a bit graphic)

Some people may prefer to NOT watch the video until after the surgery, or perhaps not at all. Seeing someone's stomach ripped open is not always the best way to start one's day.You can also watch a procedure of a full tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck in 3d animation - view it online here .

Things to Be Aware Of Before a Tummy Tuck Procedure One thing that is important to be aware of before getting a tummy tuck is that if you get pregnant or experience significant weight gain in the future, you will most likely lose your tummy tuck results. A tummy tuck is usually only recommended for women if they do not plan to have additional children. It is important to note that you will also end up with a scar from the incision that the doctor makes above your pubic bone. This scar will fade over time, but most likely will always be visible. The plastic surgeon will also attempt to create the incision mark in an area that will not be visible when you wear a bathing suit. Before getting a tummy tuck, also give some thought to the healing process. It is not instantaneous by any measure. You will first get drainage tubes in your abdominal area for a few weeks. This is to prevent fluid buildup. Also after the surgery, most people wear a compression garment, which reduces swelling and supports the healing process. It may be two months before you can get back to your normal activity. Some people may want to consider liposuction at the same time as the tummy tuck. Many doctors advise having them at separate times to make healing easier. In general if you smoke, have diabetes or are overweight, you are at a higher risk for complications.

Tummy Tuck Cost

So how much will your tummy tuck cost? Tummy Tuck costs usually range between $3000 and $8500. Part of the fee includes the charge for the anesthesia, which makes up about 10% of the bill. There is also a facility fee to consider. The final tummy tuck cost depends on a few factors. First of all, if there is a great deal of skin and fat that can raise the price. Also if there is an overnight stay in a hospital, it can raise the costs considerably. There is also a surgeon fee to consider which is approximately $4500. According, to Costhelper.com, if you live in the Northeast of the US, you will typically have higher surgical fees at an average of $5000. If you live in the south central states, your fee will be less, typically about $3650. You can view tummy tuck costs by your region at http://www.cosmeticplasticsurgerystatistics.com/costs.html.

Tummy Tucks Before and After Photos:

Ok, so you are still reading. If all of the above mentioned details sound ok to you, you are ready for your tummy tuck. But you should have one last consideration if you are serious about getting your tummy tuck. What do Tummy Tuck Before and After photos look like? If you are interested in viewing tummy tuck before and after photos, you can see a wide variety at The American Society of Plastic Surgeon’s website at http://www.plasticsurgery.org/x6134.xml?prid=28. This photo gallery of before and after photos shows the vast improvement in both men and women. This site also tells you the amount of months between the photos and the height and preoperative weight of the patient.

Finding Tummy Tuck Doctors:

So how do you go about finding a tummy tuck doctor? There are many of these doctors available, but obviously you want to find someone you can trust for your surgery. You may want to find a doctor who is a member of American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This assures that they have had a significant level of training and experience. You can also just look online or through the yellow pages, but remember if you have a doctor who is a member of a national association like the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, you can be confident that your doctor has met several requirements. Also in your search for a tummy tuck doctor, feel free to ask your other doctors for recommendations. You can get names of tummy tuck surgeons from your insurance company. While most tummy tucks are not covered by insurance, some do pay for this procedure, especially in the case of a medical problem warranting the tummy tuck.
