We recently updated our kids bedrooms with new paint, carpets and some furniture. The nightstands needed to be replaced as the older ones were falling apart and didn't match any of the new bedroom furniture we had purchased. Nightstands, or bedroom accent tables, come in a variety of styles, shapes, and colors to match your current bedroom decor. Bedroom nightstands don't have to ruin your budget as many stores sell them for less than $50. We started our search online and slowly made our way to several furniture stores before settling on our choices. If you can find a bedroom set that comes with a nightstand that solves the problem, but many sets we came across didn't have what we wanted in a bedside table.
Choosing a Nightstand - When picking a nightstand or bedroom table you have to consider a few factors. We have listed several of the features below:
Style - Certainly the table or night stand should match your furniture decor. Whether for a kids room or adult bedroom set, try to match the style as best as possible. Casual, contemporary, traditional, antique, Asian, etc.
Material - Most are made with wood. The more expensive antique nightstands are manufactured with solid hardwood. Some of the cheaper models are produced with particle board. You can also get nightstands made with metal, glass, or even plastic.
Shape - Oval, round, square, rectangular. Many of the accent table we found were designed with a rectangular top and 4 legs.
Drawers/Storage - One reason why nightstands are so popular is because of their versatility. They can be great for storing books, CDs, remote controls, etc. Normally people place things like alarm clocks on top with small table lamps for reading in bed. Drawers are nice, but shelving down below is also usable for stacking magazines or books.
Price - There are some that cost more than $1500 (marble tops with accent features and solid wood), but most run between $50 and $150. We found several nightstands for under $50 at Ikea, Target and Walmart.
Nightstand Reviews - Looking for bedside table reviews, look no further than Justnightstands.com or Amazon.com with their huge selection and dozens of owner reviews you can view online. Target and Walmart also listed quite a few models with consumer feedback and opinions. I like reading the comments left by actual owners to see which nightstands are the best. RECOMMENDED - We suggest shopping online at Amazon.com simply because their selection (over 2500 nightstands to choose from) along with their competitive pricing help you get the best deal. You can browse the best selling bedroom nightstands here.
Best Nightstands:
RECOMMENDED - There is no "best" nightstand on the market as there are too many models to choose from. Some require you to assemble them while others are made of solid hardwood and are much more durable. South Shore Furniture makes some basic night stands, most under $50, but they also carry higher quality ones that are over $100. One of our favorites is the Coaster Louis Philippe Style Night Stand which is carried on Amazon and sells for $80. Perfect for any modern bedroom setup with the cherry finish. The listing noted that some assembly is required, but all reviews we found mentioned that the piece came fully assembled. It has a rustic, antique look and feel and there is a chest/dresser piece that matches it if you want. Comments on this nightstand include "good value" and "better than expected". We say you should check out top rated nightstands here.
Nightstands Under $50:
BEST - It seems that the $50 and under nightstands are the most popular for homeowners. There is no need to spend $500 on a nightstand unless it's going into luxury bedroom set. Most people can find basic bedside tables that match their current bedroom furniture and be totally happy with their purchase. South Shore Furniture nightstands are a great place to start. They come in colors like ebony, chocolate, white, black, and natural looks like pine or maple. Choose from those with shelves or drawers. We also found a great selection on Ikea for those wanting a table that is priced less than $50. Ikea carries more modern, European looking designs, but they go great almost anywhere. I found some solid pieces for our kids rooms that required just a few minutes of assembly but should last for years.
