Hot Springs - Buying the Best Hot Tubs - Reviews and Advice
Everyone enjoys the relaxing feeling of sitting in a hot tub. Whether after a long day at the office, after a workout, after a day of skiing, or just unwinding with your kids or spouse, its a great way to relax and ease the stress of the day. Buying a hot tub is a big investment, though. Hot Spring is one of the top makers of hot tubs and portable spas. Their popular hot tub models include: Vista, Grandee, Envoy, Vanguard, Accolade, Sovereign, Prodigy, Jetsetter. We will discuss the feature of these different models below.
What makes Hot Spring Spas and Hot Tubs so good? They start with energy efficiency. Their spas are totally insulated to minimize operating costs. In terms of monthly energy costs to warm the hot tub, they estimate between $8-$15 per month ($28 in Alaska!). Their EverWood cabinets look like wood but are made of easy to care for polymer plastic, that is light weight and durable. They use LED lights with lifes of almost 10 years, and low energy use. Their IQ 2020 spa control system is easy to use - you can pick the desired temperature and forget it - it will always be ready when you want it, and includes a 10 minute cleanup cycle when you are done. They have a complex filtration system that actually cleans and filters all the water in the hot tub 10 or 15 times per day, leaving you with clean and pure water. It is also totally automatic and quiet. Those are just some of the selling points of a Hot Spring Spa or Hot Tub. You can check out their website for more information: HotSpring.com.
The Hot Spring Vista seats 6 adults and has 46 jets. It is their most fully featured spa with two jet pumps, a lounge seat, and special seats for back, wrist, and calf massage. Hot Spring offers the SpAudio sound system as an option on the Vista. Their sound systems are built inside the hot tub and use the tub itself as the speaker, there are no external speakers, so you actually feel the music. You can play your own CDs or listen to AM of FM radio. They also include the Bella Fontana water spout fountain feature, with colored lights. The Vista holds 500 gallons and weighs 6000 lbs when filled.
The Hot Spring Grandee Spa has a barrier free design for more open space and sits up to 7 adults. It has the 6 color Luminescence lighting system, the IQ2020 control system mentioned above, and twin Moto Massage back massage chairs. It also holds 500 gallons, and comes with 2 jet pumps, one 2.5hp and one 2hp.
The Vanguard and Sovereign hot tub models both seat 6. The Vanguard won Consumer Digests Best Buy award and is a popular model with 2 back massage chairs. It holds 400 gallons. The Sovereign comes with one long lounge seat, and barrier free seating for a roomy feel. At 355 gallons it is a little shallower and smaller than the Vanguard, but its open design makes it feel bigger.

Buying a hot tub - Advice from Hot Springs
All hot tub retailers off "wet-tests" or "test-soaks", where you can test out units in the flesh (well, not naked, but at least wearing a bathing suit!) - ask for one. They will often do these after hours so you have a little privacy. But if you are spending $5000 for a product, definitely take the time to sit in one and try out the features. Try out a couple to see what you like and don't like about the different models.
