Plumbers - Plumbing Problems - Finding a plumber

Some do-it-yourself whizzes don't mind snaking out a clogged toilet or drain, replacing copper pipes, or installing a new faucet on the kitchen sink. For the rest of us, there are plumbers. Plumbers can do a variety of jobs: toilet installation and unclogging, sink repair and replacement, new faucets, installing bath tub and shower fittings, replacing water heaters, removing roots and blockage from drain pipes. So how can you get information on plumbing projects and repairs, get plumbing advice, or find a local plumber? Keep reading below..

For plumbing questions, check out RotoRooter.com. They have a FAQ section that answers questions like: Why does my garbage disposal smell? How to avoid frozen pipes. How to remove buildup from your shower. Cleaning the kitchen drain. Water heater noises. Best replacement toilets. Problems about running out of hot water. You can call their number 24 hours a day for plumbing help and get a plumber out to your house quickly. 1-800-GET-ROTO. Their professional plumbers handle drain cleaning, faucets, sinks, toilets, tubs, shower heads, water lines/pipework, disposers, dishwashers, water heaters, sewer lines, and septic tanks.

Finding a local plumber

You can find a local plumber using the yellow pages from the phone book, or one of the many online sites. For example, FindAPlumber.com lets you punch in your ZIP code and it spits out local plumbers in your area. They pay for their listings there, like a yellow pages ad. They also have a section on plumbing tips and advice: cleaning the disposal and drain, leaky faucets, frozen pipes, water heaters, and more. HomeImprovementPortal.com lets you get quotes from local plumbers for whatever plumbing project you have - sprinklers, faucets, water softeners, pumps, etc. Pop in your issue, enter your ZIP code and contact info, and a local plumber will get in touch with you. Another site is eLocalPlumbers.com, where you can again search for a local plumbing contractor by zip code. They have free listings for plumbing companies in the area, plus plumbers are allowed to pay to be the exclusive advertiser for their ZIP code, but at this time there is no way to read customer reviews or get an independent recommendation - still an option for starting your search, though. They also have quite a number of reference articles related to plumbing - water heater sounds, leaking showerhead, garbage disposal sounds, condensation on toilet bowl, etc. When using the yellow pages, it is sometimes overwhelming trying to find the best plumber when there may be 100 or more ads for plumbers. Keep in mind that larger ads are more expensive, which might indicate a larger, more established, successful company. Make sure their contractors license is listed, and check for references if the job is bigger than just installing a new faucet or something.

Plumbing Referrals

Perhaps the best way to find a plumber is through a referral. Ask friends, neighbors, or family members if they have a favorite local plumber who has worked for them. Also, look for stickers on your water heater, under your sinks, or other exposed plumbing locations. Normally, any plumber that does work on a home leaves their contact information, emergency 24 hour number, etc. on a sticker in an obvious place (under the kitchen sink?). Of course if something is breaking because of poor initial plumbing, you might not want to call the same person who created the problem. But for new work, maintenance, etc. that is a good starting place.

Plumbing Tips - Plumbing Help

For advice or help on a plumbing project, be sure to visit ThePlumber.com. They've been online for over 10 years dispensing plumbing advice and assistance. They have a huge handbook and help section, with topics like "problems with low flow toilets", "how do I get a snake down the tub drain", "loose pipes under the sink and garbage disposal". For DIY tips, they can't be beat.
