A clear glass vase with a bunch of fresh cut flowers in it just makes a room come to life (or at least that's what my mother has always said). As I've become older and more mature, I am starting to believe that statement more and more. Each week I venture out to the local florist and buy flowers (tulips, roses, mixed variety, etc.) and put them in a nice vase on my kitchen island countertop. Now beyond the flowers, a vase can really be a nice accent piece in your house and even start many a conversation. There are many types of vases, but the most common are glass vases, crystal vases, ceramic vases, porcelain vases, wooden vases, and hand-painted vases. Some of the top brand names for decorative vases are Lenox, Waterford, Orrefors, Kosta Boda, Mikasa, Versace, NOVICA, and Statements. We went on Amazon.com (yes they carry vases) to do some research and find the most popular vases being sold. See below for details on what we found and where else to shop online for all styles of vases.
The top selling vases on Amazon.com are the Mikasa Calla Lily 10 Vase Flair ($34.99), Mikasa Pacific Wave 14-Inch Vase ($46.74), Royal Albert Old Country Roses Mother of Pearl Hollow Sided Vase ($9.99), Godinger Crystal Butterfly Vase ($40), St. George Lead Crystal Glory 6-Stem Vase ($8.99), 40th Wedding Anniversary Hand Cut Crystal Vase ($54.99), Lenox Soiree 10-Inch Crystal Vase ($89.95), Evolution by Waterford Ocean Tide Vase ($198), Waterford "Balmoral" Bud Vase, 9" ($125), and the Kosta Boda "Tulipa" Vase, 7 7/8" ($125). Statements has a great collection of ceramic vases with our favorite being the Statements 14"H Ceramic Vase Hand Finish in Midnight Granite ($72.89). Hand painted vases are not as expensive as you might think, we were able to find some real bargains on Amazon that looked like they were priceless antiques like the Oriental 24" Satsuma Porcelain Vase 2656 Asian ($42) and the Ancient Bronze design carved vase - porcelain, chinese ($29.95). Be selective and keep in mind that most vases are very reasonable when it comes to cost and finding one that fits your decorating style should be easy with the 1000's to choose from online. A great gift item is a bud vase - they are created with a single stem (sometimes with several stems of mixed flowers) and are a perfect get well gift or a great way to show your appreciation to a co-worker or teacher. McCoy vases are beautiful vases made of pottery and the best site we found was at Mostlymccoy.com. Although they do carry some Shawnee, Zanesville, and Robinson Ransbottom vases, as the page title states, it's 95% Mccoy vases with most prices ranging from $100-$250. Antique Roseville vases are very decorative and can light up any room, but they are expensive (expect to spend between $300-$4000). You can find a nice selection online at Aagal.com/Potteryroseville.html.
Cheap Vases - Discount Vases:
As we have discussed on this page, vases vary greatly in style and price, which means that if you look hard enough you can find your favorite type of vase in the right price range. For discount vases, we suggest shopping at stores like Crate and Barrel or Williams Sonoma. You can also go online to stores like Glassnow.com and find excellent deals on glass vases. We are always getting requests from our visitors on where to find wholesale vases and we point them to Superwholesaler.com/merchandise/vases/. You can also find some antique vases and beautifully patterned oriental vases on Ebay. When we last check there were 1000's to choose from.
Waterford Crystal Vases:
Crystal vases are beautiful and many are hand carved (not machine carved) to perfection. If you want the best, then we suggest going to Waterford Crystals website at Waterford.com. They carry lots of crystal, but specifically we wanted to talk about their crystal vases. You can purhase online their entire collection of bud vases, candlestick vases, clear vases, colored vases and rose bowls. Waterford Crystal products are world reknowned for their unique craftsmanship and dedication to only turning out "perfect" pieces while the ones with errors are thrown away. Their top bud vases are the Waterford Crystal Killarney 10" Single Stem Rose Vase ($149) and the Balmoral Bud 9" Vase ($125). For clear vases, we think the Waterford Crystal Seahorse 10" Vase for $295 is gorgeous and Clarion 10" Vase for $285 is a close 2nd. The Waterford Crystal John Rocha Black Cut Vase, 12" ($425) is an excellent choice for a colored vase. Most vases you find in stores will be much cheaper than Waterford collections, so don't be intimidated by these prices.
Wall Vase:
Specialty items like wall vases are why I like shopping at Pottery Barn. They always seem to carry unique items and often their online store has a greater selection than if you go into an actual store. You can get their simple wall vase for $12-$34 (they offer 2 sizes - small and extra large) or a nice Clifton wall vase for $24-$54. Our personal favorite (sitting in my bathroom) is the Mercer wall vase that costs about $34. Pottery Barn also carries square vases, rectangular vases, glass pedestal vases, and egg vases. Stop by their online store at Potterybarn.com.
