Los Angeles Apartments Review - Rental Guide:

Do you live in Los Angeles. Are you planning a move to Hollywood? I lived in LA for ten years and when I left in 2003 the going rent for a studio apartment in Hollywood was $800 per month. That might sound like a lot of rent money, but nowadays you would be lucky to find a deal like that near Hollywood. The major cities that people live in around Los Angeles are: Beverly Hills, Glendale, Los Feliz, Silverlake, West Hollywood, Venice, Thousand Oaks, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Reseda, Burbank, Eagle Rock, West LA, Torrance, Venice, and Hollywood. Los Angeles is a beautiful place to live except for those smoggy days (which are most) when you can barely see the car ahead of you on the road. The apartment rental market has gone crazy over the last 10 - 15 years in Los Angeles and this I know for a fact. When I moved to LA in 1994 I rented a 2bd/2bth apartment in West La for only $875 a month, but when I moved from LA in 2003 the rent on that same 2 bedroom apartment was $1800 a month. So rent doubled in LA over a ten year period while minimum wage rose by let's say $2 an hour or so - hardly enough to help pay the new housing costs associated with LA. The average rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in LA is around $1,000 and that is on the lowside. There are always deals to be found in Los Angeles, but when you are competing with millions of people it's hard to catch a break. We reviewed some of the best websites that offer rental leads and housing tips so hopefully our research will be some help to you.

West Los Angeles Apartment Rentals:

Living in West LA is a popular choice for Southern California residents because it's close to the beach (about 4 miles) and it is affordable compared to the rest of Los Angeles. West Los Angeles could actually include Brentwood, Santa Monica, Palms, Venice, Culver City, Mar Vista, and Playa Del Ray. The average rent for a 2 bedroom / 2 bath apartment in this area will cost you about $2,000 per month. That sounds expensive and is pretty pricey, but living near the beach is not cheap and Los Angeles is not known for it's low rents. You can find a 2 bedroom unit in West LA for under $1500 a month if you live inland a bit - at least 4 or 5 miles from the ocean. West Los Angeles is a desirable place to live because it has many attractions for the local residents. There is UCLA, the beach, shopping, access to 405 and 10 freeways, and the fact that West LA is pretty much located in the center of LA which is an added convenience. A nice website to help you find an apartment in West Los Angeles is westsiderentals.com/arealistings.cfm/West-LA-Apartments/. They have over 15,000 rental listings and they offer help with credit checks, landlord issues, and finding a place that takes pets. They have many listings for apartments that start under $1,200 which is a great price for Los Angeles, CA. The most affordable way to live in West LA (or Los Angeles period) is to get a few roommate. If you could live with 2 roomates in a 2 bedroom apartment that was $2100.00 a month, each person would only have to come up with $700.

Los Angeles Apartment Rentals That Take Pets:

Are you an animal lover? Do you have a dog, cat, birds, or maybe fish? It's hard enough to find an apartment in Los Angeles as it is, add a pet to the equation and it can be almost impossible to find housing in Los Angeles. Most apartments in LA require a security deposit when you move in, but if you have a pet you can expect to pay a pet deposit that usually is about $300. If you have a pet you would be wise to start your apartment search early because you are definitely going to face some obstacles - the majority of apartments for rent (condos, sfr, townhomes, etc.) don't accept pets. There is a website online you can use at www.losangelesrentallistings.com for finding a place that takes pets. Their website has many search functions to help you and their search by "zip code" is a great tool. They currently have 6,000 listings that are pet friendly so it's a great place to start your search. Another website that is helpful for finding a rental apartment that takes pets is http://losangeles.craigslist.org. Craigslist has housing classified ads for Los Angeles County that are free to view, the ads are also updated every 5 minutes. One of the search options on Craigslist is for cats and dogs so you can go directly to listings that accept pets. We listed a few suggestions for you below that might help you pick the best rental.
  • If you have a big dog (or outside cats) then try to rent a small house or condo, something that at least has a small yard
  • Budget for the pet deposit and if you have more than one pet be prepared for a deposit closer to $600
  • Are your pets noisy - if your dog barks or your birds sing don't pick a rental in a quiet building, tenants and landlord will complain
  • Be honest on your rental application and lease, if you lie about having pets you can be evicted among other penalties
  • Consider getting a roommate because then they can help care for your pets when you are gone

Los Angeles California Housing Options:

Do you have a special request when it comes to finding the perfect place to call home. Maybe you want a luxury apartment, a furnished apartment to rent, or you might be on a budget and need a cheap apartment. Whatever your needs are Los Angeles will be able to provide you with an exact fit. LA is truly a unique city and there is no better proof than the contrast between neighborhoods that are only 1 mile apart. If you live in West LA near Pico and Overton then you'll notice the area is just o.k., but if you drive a couple miles west towards the beach you will notice a huge difference in what the area looks like. Pico and Barrington for example would be close to Brentwood and there the streets are clean, less busy, and just give you a better overall safer feeling. If you can afford it and you want to find a luxury apartment for rent in Los Angeles then try http://los-angeles.apartmenthunterz.com/search/luxury-apartments-los-angeles.html.. Most luxury apartments include amenities like a pool, spa, workout facility, underground parking, etc. so you can expect to pay more for these type of units. On the other hand if you are a college student, have kids, or just can't afford to spend much on rent then you should check out http://los-angeles.apartmenthunterz.com/search/cheap-apartments-los-angeles.html where you can search through a list of apartments that rent for under $750 a month. Another popular request from renters is to find furnished apartments in Los Angeles for a decent price. There are many options when it comes to renting a furnished place like staying in a weekly hotel, subletting an apartment from somebody else, or just signing a lease yourself for an apartment that comes furnished. Typically you can expect to pay a higher monthly rent when your unit is furnished, but occasionally you will find a good deal or someone in a desperate situation. Try www.furnishedapartmentsla.com or call 888-363-5003 for assistance in all of Los Angeles. Their website has a helpful "apartment finder tool" that can assist you while you search for that ideal home. Just remember to look at apartments that you can actually afford and save yourself the temptation. There is no reason to look at a 2 bedroom luxury condo in Brentwood that rents for $3,000 a month if you are only comfortable paying as much as $2,000 a month.
