Santa Barbara Apartment Rentals & Housing Guide:If you are lucky enough to go to college at UCSB or Santa Barbara City College you'll enjoy the Pacific Ocean and beautiful coastline on a daily basis. One other thing you'll deal with is the high cost of housing and rental units along with a real scarcity or available apartments, houses, and condos. The city of Santa Barbara is located just off of Hwy 101 about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles. Surrounding towns include Goleta, Carpenteria, Isla Vista, Montecito, Summerland, and Santa Ynez. One bedroom apartments are $1200+/month and 2 bedroom units are close to $2000. As a parent sending your child to college at UC Santa Barbara, you'll need to consider this factor in terms of affordability. We have heard stories of college students living 4 to a 2 bedroom apartment just to make ends meet. Often, come late August you'll find students scrambling to find an apartment or rental unit with none to be found. The rental market in Santa Barbara is insanely tight and doesn't look to be getting better any time soon. What should you do to find the best rental? Is shared housing the answer?.
A little further away from campus, yet still in a nice area are the La Brezza Apartments which are at 620 West Gutierrez near Pershing Park on the beach side of Hwy 101. They offer up 2 bedroom units with or without balcony, there is a pool, clothes care center, and BBQ area. If you go down the coast a bit to Montecito, check out Village Fontana which books up early, but offers studios, 1, and 2 bedroom rental units (36 total units). Willow Springs is a much talked about newer community in Goleta which is near Hollister Avenue and Los Carneros Rd. There are 4 floor plans to choose - including 1,2, and 3 bedroom apartments. These are luxury units with a fitness center, pool, high speed internet, BBQ grills, jogging path, and it's near Goleta beach. Property Management - Houses, Apartments, Duplexes for Rent:Santa Barbara is not unlike another city just up north called San Luis Obispo. Both cities are home to universities and housing has become not only expensive, but hard to find. The rents in SB (as some people call it) are extravagent and will definitely put a dent into your wallet. As for having the most success in finding a rental in Santa Barbara, consider working with a property management (PM) firm which can direct you to many types of properties versus a single apartment community that is limited in scope. PM companies usually deal with apartments, homes, condos, duplexes, and even lofts in some cities. Even if they don't have availability, they often know other property management companies who can help located something for you. Many of the companies listed below offer up studios, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, 3 or 4 bedroom homes, and smaller condos. The properties can be on or near the beach which is a plus if you are the renter. College kids do take a lot of the available rentals in Santa Barbara, but if you are professional or graduate student looking for quieter living conditions, go with a property management company for the best selection.
