Dial Up Internet Service Provider Reviews and Guide:
Do you use a dial up internet account? If you are still using dial up don't think you are the only person left because I actually have 2 dial up accounts, one with NetZero and one with People PC. The last house I lived in had DSL in all the bedrooms, but I had constant problems with the service and router (through my local phone company here in Las Vegas) and after I moved to my current residence I went back to dial up and have been very happy with my decision. I know that DSL and cable connections are supposed to be faster while surfing the web, the only thing is that they were unreliable so I went back to what I always had - Dial Up Access. For the most part my dial up accounts are fast enough for what I do online, which is usually a lot of writing email and researching specific subjects. If you deal with a lot of downloads for music, mp3s, images, programs, etc. then high speed internet is probably going to be better for you. Just yesterday I saw an ad on the Yahoo homepage where Yahoo was offering DSL for only $15 a month for the first 6 months and Embarq is currently running a special for $29.99 per month for DSL service for life. If you work at home, download a lot of big files (music files, video files, or software) then you would be wise to find a quality DSL provider in your area. On the other hand if you just surf the web for fun and spend your time reading emails then you might just stick with a cheap dial up account. Hopefully our review will help clear up some of your questions about dial up service.
Net Zero Dial Up Internet Access Provider:
Do you need a cheap and reliable internet provider? Maybe you want to try an ISP on a trial basis? Netzero is a great dial up service which is also affordable at only $9.95 a month. I have used Netzero faithfully over the last 4 years, but before that I tried every dial up company that you can think of like Earthlink, Att, Aol, etc. Most of the dial up providers I tried had reliable service, the only problem was that they always wanted to raise their rates. Netzero requires that your computer has a working modem and after you install their internet software you are ready to surf the web for only $9.95 a month - for unlimited access. Having unlimited monthly access is important because some companies like Aol offer cheap monthly packages, but the catch is that you have a limited number of minutes you can spend online. My friend still uses Aol (don't ask me why) and he pays like $5.99 a month for 500 minutes or so, after that he gets charged some ridiculous fee per minute. Netzero allows me 1GB of storage in my email account (comes with spam protection) along with a vm account that lets you take messages. I have not used the voice mail service yet because I don't really need it, but it offers services like call forwarding, call screening, and even a block list. The best part about Netzero in my mind is that their service is VERY Reliable, which is what you really want from an ISP anyways right. NetZero offers a large amount of telephone access numbers (depends on the city you live in) that connect you to the world wide web and they also have a great tech support and customer service. Check out their website for more details and current specials at netzero.com or you can call 1-800 Netzero. Just last year NetZero started to offer high speed dial up access for only $14.95 a month which we have discussed below. Netzero is currently offering a $30 referral bonus when you get a friend to sign up for their service so don't forget to tell your friends when you sign up yourself.
People Pc - Earthlink - Aol - Dial Up Internet Service Providers:
The main reason that people still use dial up is because it's typically cheaper than DSL or cable connections, although there are still some parts of the country where only dial up is available (yeah believe it or not). For the most part all dial up providers offer the same basic service: dial up connection through a phone jack, 1 GB email, spam protection, pop up blockers, etc. Earthlink and Aol are 2 of the biggest dial up providers around and I have used both of them at one time or another. Earthlink is currently available for $9.95 on a 3 month trial period and then their service will cost you $21.95 / month. Earthlink is known as a quality ISP and some of the services they offer are: free 24/7 tech support, virus blocker, spyware blocker, thousands of access numbers nationwide, and Earthlink Accelerator. They also offer an annual dial up service plan that runs just $14.95 a month on a 12 month commitment. You can find all the details for the Earthlink dial up service at earthlink.net/dialup/. Aol is still huge with dial up customers, but I don't understand why because in my mind they are overpriced. Aol offers an unlimited dial up service for $19.99, but right now they have a special online for just $9.95 a month. The dial up account comes with 24/7 customer support, a personal email account, security tools, and so much more. Their website is located at free.aol.com and their service is month to month so you can cancel at anytime. I use People Pc on one of my desktop computers and I have to say their dial up service is pretty good. I always get a clear connection (which is difficult with some providers at busy parts of the day) and have never had any problems big enough to make me contact them. I pay $10.95 a month, on a month to month basis where I can cancel at any time. Some of the features that People PC offers are: unlimited internet access, email virus protection, spam controls, pop up blocker and more access numbers than AOL. They have a special right now where you can get 3 months of dial up service for just $5.47 a month, then it goes to $10.95 a month. People PC also offers a 30 free trial. High Speed / Accelerator for Dial Up Internet Service:
If you do use a dial up connection to get online you can always consider upgrading to a high speed dial up account. NetZero offers this service for just $14.95 a month which allows you to surf the web at up to 5x the speed of regular dial up (using your same phone jack and modem). NetZero HiSpeed is a new type of internet that accelerates your internet use without requiring any additional equipment. Certain things like web pages, graphics, text, and email are all accelerated under this high speed program, but other functions like streaming audio and video, secure pages (credit card forms), and files or attachments (like music) are not accelerated. As you can see it really just depends on your individual needs when trying to decide what service provider to go with. The HiSpeed service caches parts of websites that you visit often so that the pages can load quicker in the future without having to reread the entire website. The pop up blocker also helps eliminate wasted time that would normally be spent closing annoying pop-up windows. For complete details and sign up info check out www.netzero-internet.com. Most internet providers offer some sort of high speed dial up service so you might want to shop around to get the best price.
Pop Up Blockers For Dial Up Internet Providers:
Are you sick of all the pop up windows that have taken over the internet? It seems that even trustworthy sites have started to sell advertising to companies that use pop ups. I Hate pop up windows (or spam) and I'm very grateful that my dial up internet accounts have pop up blockers as part of their standard service. Nowadays internet providers allow customers to disable all pop up windows from their computers (for free), or if you want to you can allow individual pop up windows to operate at your discretion (in case you wanted to see a promotional ad on some website). Of course if you want to view pop ups on your computer you can also allow all pop up windows by clicking on the "pop up blocker button" at the top of your browser toolbar (internet explorer or firefox). I think pop up windows are a major headache, not to mention that the extra content slows down my computer especially on dial up. I know that People PC and NetZero offer a way to disable pop up ads, but if you go with another service provider then you should definitely research their services before you sign up. For more information on pop up windows and how to disable them check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop-up_ad.
