With ever expanding hard drive capacities and ever falling hard disk prices, it is becoming easier and easier to store vast amounts of digital information. When working at your home or office, storing and retrieving data from your laptop or desktop or server hard drive is a no- brainer. Most desktop systems comes with at least 80GB or more of storage space. But what happens when you are traveling or cannot access YOUR computer? Or what if you want to give other people access to your data or files, without giving them access to your computer? One solution is to use an online file storage provider.
A number of companies have mountains of disk space available and allow you to store files there and access them from any internet-enabled computer.
Storing Photos and Files Online
Streamload.com is one site that allows you to store up to 10GB of files on their servers - videos, data, photos, whatever. You can store your MP3 collection here and access it from a friend's house or office. You can store vacation photos and let friends and family browse them. The free file storage option allows up to 10GB total, 10MB max. file size, and 100MB/month of downloads. Upgraded plans range from $5 to $40 per month, allowing more file storage space, download bandwidth, and larger files. Xdrive.com has also been around for quite a while, offering a similar service. FilesAnywhere.com is another one you can look into - they've been around since 1999 and offer online storage and backup plans ranging from $4 to hundreds of dollars for corporate users.
