Baseball Card Memorabilia and Buying Guide:

When I was a kid I would spend almost all my money on baseball cards and supplies. I used to buy basketball, football, hockey and baseball cards like they were going out of style. I remember the big name companies were Fleer, Topps, Donruss, Upper Deck, Bowman, Skybox, Leaf, and Pinnacle. As luck would have it I bought a bunch of Barry Bonds rookie cards back in the day and last time I checked Beckett had some listed at over $800.00 (not bad considering I have 10 of his rookie cards in great shape in a display case). I wish I would have bought Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Nolan Ryan cards, but I didn't so I'm just happy to have the Barry Bonds cards in my collection. The real value of a card is measured by 2 factors, 1 being how good the player is over his career and also how rare his card is (what year and what manufacturer made the card). A lot of part time collectors don't realize that a Topps Barry Bonds rookie card might only sell for $50, while a Fleer Update Barry Bonds card could get over $1000.00 on ebay.com. When I was collecting cards I would usually by them by the box (which I believe was 36 packs at like 50 cents a pack) and if I was tight on money I would buy individual packs. It is hard to determine the exact value of a card so if you are trying to determine what your collection is worth you should use a few sources. Beckett.com is a great website to help you price your old baseball cards or you can check out ebay (the online auction site that lists cards for sale) where you can see what cards are selling for today online. If you have a ton of old cards sitting in your garage you might want to search through them in case you have a Pete Rose, Derek Jeter, Willie Mays, or Michael Jordan card sitting in a case somewhere.

Baseball Card Values:

I recently went online to see what my Ken Griffey Jr. rookie cards were worth (I had the ones made by score) and was dissapointed to find out that I was not rich. If you want to know what your cards are worth then we recommend you check out beckett.com. Beckett is only a pricing guide, but many of the stores and baseball card shops use beckett to set pricing on their cards so it's a pretty helfpul tool. If you also check out classified sites like backpage.com you can find private collectors selling their cards online at discount prices (sometimes you can find a really good deal on older cards). One thing that is weird about baseball cards is that prices don't always go up. I know that when I was collecting cards in the early 1990's a Jerry Rice rookie card was selling for about $200, and just the other day on ebay I saw his rookie card (graded a 9 by PSA) was selling for only $140.00. The most important thing when it comes to putting a price on your trading cards is to keep them in good condition (corners sharp, don't bend card, keep out of sunlight, etc.).

Topps - Fleer - Upper Deck Baseball Cards:

Do you want to buy some Topps, Fleer, or Donruss cards? Topps is by far the most popular and oldest baseball card company around today (they have always been a big name). Topps has continued to produce baseball sets ever since 1951, establishing the 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 standard card size and the information typically found on cards today. If you want to buy some Topps Factory Sets then check out baseballcardshop.net for a great selection of new and old cards. Some of the other cards you can find on their website are Pinnacle, Stadium Club, Bowman, and Pacific. You can get a 2006 Topps Baseball Complete Factory Set - Topps 2006 Baseball Complete Set is a piece of history that collectors will enjoy for generations and beyond. Set Contains 659 Baseball cards for only $59.99. If you prefer Upper Deck then check out their Final Edition Pedro Martinez Upper Deck Rookie for only $15.00. Fleer is also a great company that has been making trading cards for years. One weird thing about the sports card industry is how some players rookie cards are only valuable if you buy the right brand. A great example of this is Barry Bonds as he approaches the all time home run record. I own a lot of Bonds cards so I have been following the steroids case and his run for 755 home runs. If you own his 1987 Topps rookie card you might be able to sell it on ebay for about $25, but if you own the Bonds Fleer 1987 Rookie Card then you might be able to get closer to $1000.00 for you card on ebay.com. All of these card manufacturers make trading cards for all the major sports, so our advice would be to just purchase the cards that you like to collect and hope they gain value over the years.

Beckett Baseball Card Price Guide:

If you collect cards as a business or if you are a part time collector you have probably heard of beckett.com. Beckett is the leader when it comes to putting a value on sports cards. Beckett literally has a price for every card ever made (there are some cards that never had a value) and they even have a price for "commons" which is usually just .03 cents. Their website offers a place to sign up where you can get access to the online price guide, message boards and other exclusive content. The sign up is free and only takes a few moments. Check out Beckett.com for more details and other categories like autographs, novelties, collectibles, figures, pricing, and other publications (magazines). Beckett is no longer just a magazine for sports cards and nowadays they offer information on entertainment cards like Pokemon, Anime, Dragonball Z, and Yu-Gi-Oh. I remember going to my local card dealer in town every month and looking through the beckett magazine (with hopes of my collection making me rich) to find out how much my Joe Montana or Michael Jordan card was worth. If you are into other sports like Tennis, Hockey, Soccer, Wrestling, Golf, Olympic, or Auto Racing then you are in luck as Beckett offers a complete section for these sports also. You can still purchase the Beckett magazine in card stores for $6, and it is worth the investment if you have old cards that you need to put a price on.
