Boston Celtics Players, History:Everybody who follows the NBA is familiar with The Boston Celtics and their great legacy in basketball. The Celtics came together as an organization in 1946 and have been a great team ever since. Boston has won 16 NBA Championships since they joined the league, far more than any other team in the NBA. From 1957-1969 The Celtics won 11 NBA Championships and totally dominated every team they played. During these years The Celtics had some great players like Bob Cousy and Bill Russell while they had the greatest coach of all time Red Auerbach leading the team to victory. K.C. Jones was another great coach for The Celtics in the 80's and this team (like their past teams) had some all stars on it. They had the big names like Larry Bird and Kevin Mchale, along with the role players like Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge. The Celtics won 3 NBA Titles in the 1980's and were one of the best teams in that decade if not the best. You could definitely make an argument for the LA Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers, but you can't deny Boston as being a powerhouse. In the 80's it seemed that everywhere you went you would see someone wearing the classic green Celtics Jersey or t-shirt to show their Celtics pride. The 1990's proved to be a rebuilding period for Boston as the team no longer had it's superstar players from the 80's. The Celtics did have some talent with Antoine Walker and Paul Pierce on the roster, but there was never any team chemistry and it showed on the court. Rick Pitino took over the coaching job in 1997 and made some improvements as they won 21 more games as a team than the previous year. The Celtics have been a decent team ever since and at times they look like a great team (depending on who they are playing that night). The problem with Boston seems to be that when they need someone to make a big play nobody ever steps up, which will not produce the winning results that fans are used to in Boston. 2006-2007 should be a good year for The Celtics even though Antoine Walker is no longer on the team and they are very young as a whole. Expect Paul Pierce and Wally Szczerbiak to be their leaders on the court, while some of the younger players come into their own. If you want to go to a Celtics home game be prepared to spend a little cash. Celtics tickets cost from $15 a seat and up, some courtside seats will sell for $1000. Stubhub.com is a great online ticket store and they have offer the best seats available (at a reasonable price). The 2006 season looks like a tough schedule for the Celtics, but with Paul Pierce on your team you always have a chance to win the game. It seems that it does not matter whether Larry Bird is shooting 3 pointers to win a game, or if Paul Pierce is turning the ball over - Celtic fans are always there to cheer on their team. This Celtics website is free to use, but they do offer a members section (which is also free) where you can sign up to be more involved by receiving email news on the team.
