Denver Nuggets Players, History, Schedule:Some NBA fans remember when the Denver Rockets came into the ABA in 1967 (they would join the NBA in 1976). In 1974 they changed their name to the Denver Nuggets and that is still their name today where they play in Colorado. The biggest news today in Denver is the arrival of Allen Iverson (The Answer, AI) who was just traded for from Philadelphia 76ers. Carmelo Anthony is the leader in Denver, but with Allen Iverson now on the team coach George Karl is gonna have his hands full of talent. The early years were not very good for the Nuggets as they struggled in every aspect, but they did manage a few playoff appearances. In the mid 70's the Nuggets had a few good seasons with Larry Brown coaching the team to the ABA Finals in 1975-1976. In the 1980's the Nuggets were coached by Doug Moe who used a "run and gun" style of play where the emphasis was on scoring (with Alex English leading the way) not on defense. The Nuggets had some decent teams during this time, but without any defense they could never get past the Los Angeles Lakers in the West. Fat Lever and Calvin Natt were great players for the Nuggets during this time and they were consistent, never good enough though to make a serious run at an NBA Championship. The 1990's looked like they were gonna be a good time for Nuggets fans as they had a new head coach in Paul Westhead and a few talented young players like Dikembe Mutombo and Jalen Rose on the roster. The Nuggets made the playoffs a few times in the late 1990's, but in 1997-1998 they set an NBA record low with only 11 wins, going 11-71 for the year (absolutely embarrassing for the organization, players and fans in Denver). In 2003 the Nuggets drafted Carmelo Anthony and once again Denver Nugget fans started to believe they might be back in the playoffs soon. Now that Allen Iverson is playing for Denver (he is one of the 5 greatest players to ever play in the NBA) there is a great chance the Nuggets will win the NBA Title in 2006. Some other good players on the Nuggets are Marcus Camby, Nene, and Earl Boykins at the point guard position. It should be a good year in Denver, although their schedule is always tough with teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, and Phoenix Suns playing really well. You can find a Mello or Iverson jersey for between $49 and $250 depending on what style jersey you like (they sell official, throwback, autographed, etc.) The NBA.com also sells hats, mugs, posters, even shoes and socks for those athletes who actually play the game (not sitting on the couch playing NBA Live). A great item for Nuggets fans is the old reliable baseball cap with the Nuggets logo on it, which you can get for about $20. The day Allen Iverson became a Nugget it was heard that over 500 more season tickets sold that day for games at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Season tix can be expensive and easily cost you over $4000 if you buy great seats, but the other option is to just buy tickets to your favorite home games. Upper level seats (the cheapest ticket) are $10 and up, while seats in the lower level (decent seats) will cost you $59 and up. Club Level seats will cost between $350 and $600 a ticket - could be an expensive night out in Denver if you are a Nuggets fan.
