In 1934 the Detroit Lions joined the NFL and they won 4 NFL Championships during the 1930's through the 1950's but since have come up empty. Some great players have passed through the organization like Mel Gray, Billy Sims, Eddie Murray, Chris Spielman, Barry Sanders, and Greg Landry. Todays roster includes future greats like Roy Williams, Mike Williams, and Kevin Jones. The years with Barry Sanders were amazing for the whole league as each week we watched what perhaps will never be seen again in the NFL. Barry Sanders was a class act (much like Walter Payton) and he will be remembered as one of the greatest running backs of all time (if not the greatest). The Lions have gone through lots of quarterbacks in their attempt to return to greatness - Joey Harrington, Jon Kitna, Dan Orlovsky, and now they are bringing Daunte Culpepper out of retirement to lead the team. I can't imagein this is the solution, but maybe 2009 will show more promise for the team. If you want to follow the teams season online, go to Detroitlions.com for up to date schedules, roster moves, injury reports, training camp news, rumors, gameday matchups and much more.
Detroit Lions Cheerleader : Wallpapers and Calendars:
First off, we are disappointed to say the Detroit Lions have no cheerleaders to speak of. With an indoor stadium (Ford Field) and fans that want them, you would think the team would supply cheerleaders to cheer on the players. Perhaps some time down the road the Detroit Lions will get a cheerleading squad. As for player wallpaper and downloads, the official Detroit Lions site is pretty bad compared to other teams that offer wallpaper, screensavers and tons of pictures. Not sure where the online marketing team is for the Lions, perhaps no one is responsible for keeping the fans happy. There are a few wallpaper images in the "Multimedia" section. Download desktop images of Kevin Smith, Ernie Sims, Calvin Johnson, and a generic team wallpaper. The video vault does have a few of the famous runs that Barry Sanders made during his career and you can watch them online if you want.
Detroit Lions Merchandise/Apparel:
With most NFL teams selling out their games each year, the one good thing in Detroit is that the Lions usually have tickets available to all games if you want them. There's no waiting lists or having to order only season tickets. They offer individual games tickets to preseason and regular season games. Ticket prices start at $40 for the family friendly zone and move up to $70 for better seats. Inside Ford Field (formerly the Pontiac Silverdome), all seats have great views and the action of the game is viewable by everyone. As for merchandise, this is where the Detroit lions shine with a beautiful collection of online gear just for the fan at Detroitlionsstore.com. The top selling items are Black Logo Hat ($15), Blue Basic Logo ($15), Detroit Lions Black Locker Room Tee ($15), R. Williams Replica Jersey ($20). For Barry Sander jerseys we suggest trying the Fansedge.com or Jersey-Joe.com. If you are going to buy tickets, be sure to check online and see the seating chart map of the stadium

Detroit Lions Fan sites:
I hate to say this, but the fan sites we found for the Detroit Lions may have actually been better than the teams homepage. Amazing, given all the money you could spend to make a website for a professional sports team and amateur fan pages are better. Lionbacker.com has sections on the Detroit Lions history, news, draft information, a downloads section with Barry Sanders wallpaper image, and a wallpaper photo of the teams schedule on a calendar. The forum is a great place to go and exchange wits with other fans and find out what the team is doing. Lionsunderground.org is a touch "simple" but they offer a chat room, the latest news articles on the team, and a Fantasy Football section. Motorcityfootball.com is a true fans page with an open message board to post your own stories and comments. Lastly, Detroittailgate.com is a great site dedicated to all the tailgating ticketholders with schedules, message boards, weather forecasts, a video gallery, photos, and information on how to join the party before each home game.
