The Nets have been in the NBA since 1976 which was the year that Julius Erving (Dr. J) was traded (still considered a historical trade in the NBA) to Philadelphia. New Jersey struggled early on in their history, as it took them 6 NBA seasons to break the 500 % winning mark. In the 80's the Nets started to pick up quality players (Buck Williams, Keith Lee, Darryl Dawkins) as they established themselves as a legitimate team in the Eastern Conference. It always seemed that the Nets were one player away from having a really good team instead of just an average team. The Nets would have some good teams in the early 90's, led by Kenny Anderson, Derrick Coleman and P.J. Brown, but they were always one win or a big shot from pulling it out. Later in the 1990's the Nets would rely on Kendall Gill and rookie Keith Van Horn to carry the load (which seemed to be a little bit to heavy). In 2003 the Nets lost to the Spurs in a great NBA Finals. Kerry Kittles really stepped up as a go to player - he just wasn't on the level of say Jordan. A great website for Nets history is at nba.com/nets/history/ where they have memories and stats from every year since 1976. In 2006 the Nets will rely heavily on Vince Carter, Antoine Wright, and Jason Kidd to make them a playoff contender, but reality says they will need more talent to get back to the finals. Today New Jersey is dreaming of making it back to the NBA Finals, but the Detroit Pistons and Miami Heat will probably have something to say about that come May 2007. New Jersey Nets Dancers, Pictures:
New Jersey plays an exciting style of basketball which is fun to watch (especially the Nets Dancers). To see exclusive photos and video from the most recent photo shoot check out nba.com/nets where you can find weekly upates and information on your favorite girls. The Nets Dancers are an energetic group of young women from all over the U.S. who bring the energy level at the Nets home games to a new level. Last year there were over 250 girls who auditioned for the Nets Dancers job, as expected only 13 made the team. This year looks to be no different for the dancers as they have once again selected the 13 spots and eagerly await the 2006-2007 season.
Where can I buy New Jersey Nets Tickets, Jerseys, Schedule, and Merchandise?:
Many NBA fans today are more than dedicated to their favorite teams. Vince Carter is one of the most popular players in the NBA and his jersey #15 is a top seller among basketball fans. If you are looking to buy merchandise (shoes, hats, t-shirts, jerseys) then check out nba.com/nets with a store that carries everything imaginable. A Vince Carter jersey will cost you about $50 online, which is the average price for an authentic NBA jersey. Tickets to Nets home games are affordable when you consider the quality of player on the Nets roster. We found the best website to buy tickets from at ticketmaster.com with tickets starting at about $10. If you are willing to spend a couple hundred dollars you can get seats so good that you will feel like you played in the game (well maybe not, but close enough to see all the action). With Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson leading the way the Nets always have a chance to win any home game. For this years schedule check out nba.com/nets for a complete list of home and away games.
New Jersey Nets Fansites:
NBA fans in 2006 are from all over the world and now some preseason games are being held overseas to help bring the NBA to the international market. If you are a Nets fan you probably love Jason Kidd and Vince Carter, but there are a ton of other good players on the roster. We checked out some Nets fansites (and forums) and found a few good ones. Check out netstalk.com for Nets news, updates, wallpapers, stats, and trade rumors (there is always talk of major trades right before playoff time). Most fansites are hosted on free servers like tripod.com, which is a free service that many amateur webmasters use. If you are a Nets fan and want to try building a website to support your team check out tripod.com. Once you build a fansite you can post photos, news, comments, even predictions about how far the Nets will go this year.
