Portland has made a mark for themselves in the NBA over the years with different players and allstars. Most NBA fans remember Bill Walton and his red hair and beard, while younger basketball fans remember the Blazers with Clyde Drexler and their playoff teams of the early 1990's. Portland first joined the NBA in 1970 and are currently owned by Paul Allen (you might know the name from Microsoft). The Blazers did win the NBA Championship in 1977, but since then they have really only had a few good teams which were mostly in the early 90's. Portland did not win 40 games until the 1976 season when they managed to win 49 games and went on to win the NBA Finals with players like Maurice Lucas and Bill Walton leading the way. Portland was able to get back into the playoffs during the late 70's and early 1980's, but it was not until 1984 and the arrival of Clyde "the glyde" Drexler that Blazer fans had reason to believe they might return to their 1977 winning ways. The Trailblazers would build a good team around Drexler with talented players like Jerome Kersey and Terry Porter, yet they would not get back to the NBA Finals until the 1989-90 season (where they would lose to the Detroit Pistons led by Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman and Joe Dumars). Drexler would lead Portland back to the finals in the 1991-92 season and their reward was playing the Chicago Bulls (led by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen) who would beat the Blazers in 6 games. From 1992 to 1998 the Portland Blazers would lose in the 1st round of the playoffs for 6 consecutive years, which of course Portland fans were not very thrilled about. After these terrible playoff performances the Blazers tried to bring in some new talent like Steve Smith and Damon Stoudamire to help Cliff Robinson and the Blazer team regain their winning attitude. Rasheed Wallace and Bonzi Wells were also key members of the Blazers team in 2000 as Portland made it back to the Western Conference Finals. Since 2002 the Blazers have not been a contender in the NBA and their fans are starting to get restless as they watch their team struggle to win 40 games a year. This year Portland will be playing their home games in Rose Garden Arena, where they hope their younger players like Juan Dixon, Lamarcus Aldrigde, and Zach Randolph can give the fans something to cheer about as they try to get back to the NBA playoffs in 2007.
Portland Trailblazers Cheerleaders, Pictures:
The Portland Trailblazers have some loyal fans in Oregon and they have some amazing cheerleaders made up of 17 gorgeous women from all over America. Some of the more popular dancers on this years squad are Kristen, Stephanie and Michelle. Being a cheerleader in 2006 is no easy task and most of the girls who dance for the Blazers have a long resume when it comes to dance. For more information, pictures, and bios on the whole Blazers Dance team check out nba.com/blazers/fans/blazerdancers.html. If you are gonna attend a home game at The Rose Garden Arena make sure to bring your binoculars so you can get some good looks at the cheerleaders as they keep the crowd pumped up for a full 48 minutes.
Where can I buy Portland Trailblazers Tickets, Jerseys, Schedule, and Merchandise?:
Do you want to buy tickets to a Trailblazers home game at Rose Garden Arena? If you do then you should be prepared to pay $100 for a good seat, but if you are on a budget and want to go the cheap route you can get an upper deck seat for only $10. Stubhub.com is a great website to buy and sell tix online, but we recommend that you buy your tickets early because some Portland home games sell out against opponents like Utah, Dallas, and the LA Lakers. Check out the nba.com/blazers for the entire schedule of games which will be held at Rose Garden Arena in Portland. If you are a diehard Blazers fan and want to purchase Blazers merchandise you should definitely check out ebay.com where you will find every item imaginable with a Portland logo on it (hats, shirts, sweats, calendars, jerseys, photos, etc.). Ebay is a good place to shop for apparel because it's like shopping at an auction and if the price gets to high you can just bid on the next item you want. An authentic Juan Dixon jersey will run you $50 (autographed will be closer to $90 or $100), while you can pick up cheaper items like a Blazers hat for only $15, or a Blazers poster for about $8-$15. Thanks to the internet now us basketball fans can just surf the web and find any sports memorabilia product ever made (and sometimes find it at a cheap, bargain price).
