The San Jose Sharks were founded in 1991 and play their home NHL hockey games at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calfornia. The SJ Sharks had a rough go of it when they first started in the Bay Area but in their 3rd season they made it to the playoffs and shocked the Detroit RedWings in the opening round to send "Sharks Mania" around the northern California area. I was lucky enough to have lived in the Bay Area since 1970 and when the Sharks hit the scene everyone was very excited to finally have a hockey team in our immediate area. As with any new franchise the seasons were up and down but fans stuck with the Sharks for years before it seemed like we lost interest. They have never won the Stanley Cup or even a Conference Championship. The Sharks have not lacked talent over the years with great players like Owen Nolan, Mike Ricci, Patrick Marleau, and Jeff Friesen all coming through the team at one point in time.
The official San Jose Sharks website can be found online at Sharks.nhl.com. Here you can find ticket information on home games, the current schedule, player profiles, statistics and team standings in their division, and all the latest news on trades and injuries. The Fan Zone on the webpage has a fun "chat room" for Sharks fans to write comments on games or players and have others respond. When it comes to buying San Jose Sharks tickets, good luck. The team has sold out games for years and the 2007-08 season appears no different. Normally lower level tickets range from $68-$150 and the upper level are $19-$73. Ticketmaster.com has a seating chart of the Sharks stadium so if you are looking for tickets make sure you have the chart handy to see where your seats will be. Ebay and Craigslist.org are good sites if you want to buy tickets from 3rd party vendors. If you are willing to put down a deposit and wait, you could get on the list for season tickets when they become available. Each year there are some individual game tickets set aside, but they usually get sold within the first week or so of availability. Worse comes to worse, catch the Shark games on TV and enjoy the action right from your couch.
Jersey, Merchandise, Apparel:
One thing the San Jose Sharks franchise has done well and that is merchandising. The Sharks jerseys, hats, shirts, etc. have sold extremely well over the years and continue to do so. I don't know if it's the logo or the colors, but something seems to fit just right with their apparel. To get the latest selection of Sharks apparel including jerseys, hats, calendars, game pucks, etc, go to the official Sharks shopping site HERE. Reebok hats with Sharks logo go for $25 and the Replica Pucks are totally cool for $10. Want to fit right in with the rest of the crowd, buy a team jersey (blank or customized) from $115 to $150. Get the authentic road or home colors and support the team. You may be surprised to know that the online Sharks shop carries lamps, mantle clocks, leather recliners, sleeping bags, pint glasses and dozens of other items all with the Sharks logo and colors.
San Jose Sharks Fan Sites:
As a fan of the Sharks for nearly 20 years now, I always appreciate fan sites dedicated to the team. The best fan sites are those that offer a place to go and discuss the team, the players, trade talks, playoff hopes, and past glorys. I found several top rated San Jose Sharks fan sites that are definitely worth a look. The first is at Sanjosesharksblog.com with game summaries, player news, daily blogs, videos, screensavers, and email updates. Sharkspage.com is another quality Sharks fan site with message boards, a history of the team, playoff history, photos you can view, daily updates, and links to other local Sharks news webpages. Perhaps the most comprehensive Sharks website is at Thefeeder.com. This site is loaded with Sharks roster, schedule, depth charts, injury reports, training camp info, division records, scoring leaders, and much more.
San Jose Sharks Wallpaper:
Ok, for all those Sharks fans that want to support the team even when you aren't online or at the game, why not download some quality desktop wallpaper images of the Sharks to put on your computer screen. My favorite source for San Jose Sharks wallpaper is at their official website Sjsharks.com. In the Fan Zone area you will find high quality wallpaper pictures that are easy to download and install right to your desktop for everyone at your work or home to see. They offer some cool San Jose Shark logo wallpapers, one that says "This is Shark Territory", and one with the new Shark logo. You can also download a Sharks screensaver in the same area of the site. Another excellent site for Sharks wallpaper images is located HERE with full screen images of Evgeni Nabokov, Patrick Marleau, Jonathan Cheechoo, Joe Thornton, and Matt Carle. All downloads are free and don't cost a penny.
