Seattle Supersonics Players, History:

Seattle joined the NBA in 1967-1968 and have been a team full of highlights ever since (including 3 trips to the NBA Finals). A great website for learning more about the history of the Sonics is at nba.com/sonics/history/sonics_history.html. Seattle had a tough 1st season in the NBA as they only won 25 games with the help of their all-star guard Walt Hazzard. Spencer Haywood joined the Sonics in 1971 and it seemed like they were headed for the playoffs and maybe a title. Unfortunately for Seattle fans they would have to wait until 1978 before their beloved Sonics would reach the NBA Finals (actually made it 2 years in a row). Lenny Wilkens and Fred Brown were the nucleus of the team in the early 1970's while Bill Russell (Boston Celtics) was brought in as coach and general manager. Seattle continued to play good basketball in the 70's, but it was the arrival of Jack Sikma, Dennis Johnson, and Gus Williams that would take Seattle to the finals. The Sonics would win the NBA Championship in 1978 and surprise everyone as Lenny Wilkens coached them to greatness. The early 1980's saw Seattle bounce in and out of the playoffs (thanks mostly to a great defense), but they would not taste real success again until years later. Tom Chambers joined the team in 1983 and played a vital role in helping Seattle get back a winning attitude on the court. In 1986 Seattle acquired Xavier McDaniel and Dale Ellis (both would go on to have great NBA careers) and started to build a good team to compete in the western conference with the Lakers, Suns, and Rockets. Shawn Kemp, Eddie Johnson, and Gary Payton were all playing for Seattle in 1991 (with George Karl as the coach) and the Supersonics seemed destined for success (although it would take them a few years to get back on top). Seattle finally returned to the NBA Finals in 1996 with some added talent (Hersey Hawkins, Detlef Schrempf), but they were no match for Chicago and Michael Jordan who won the series in 6 games. The Sonics continued to play hard nosed defense in the late 90's while Gary Payton carried them back to the playoffs (they would never reach the finals again). The last 5 years have been tough for Sonics fans as they have watched Seattle try to rebuild a winning team with players like Rashard Lewis, Ray Allen, and Chris Wilcox. It has been a while since the Sonics were considered a great NBA team like they were in the mid 1990's, although this season could take them back to the playoffs. Sonics Dance Team, Pictures:

Living in Seattle can be very wet and dreary, but if you want to pick up your spirit check out the Sonics dancers at nba.com/sonics/dance/06-07.html and learn more about Ali, Abby and the rest of the team. You can check out photos, bios, and personal stats on all the dancers who made the 2006-2007 team. This year 15 girls made the dance team (most NBA teams have about 18 dancers on their squads) and they are hoping to have good reason to cheer on their Sonics at all 41 home games. If you make it to a Seattle home game you might consider paying top $ for courtside seats, because that is where you will see the cheerleaders close up and personal.

Where can I find Seattle Supersonics Tickets, Jerseys, Schedule, and Merchandise?:

Are you looking to buy Seattle Sonics clothes or merchandise? For memorabilia and Sonics items for sale check out ebay.com. Ebay is a great store to shop at online because you set the price you are willing to pay (basically you bid on what item you want to purchase). You will find everything from hats, shoes, jerseys, mugs, and even pictures of your favorite players on the website at a great price. A hat with the Sonics logo will cost about $15, while a Ray Allen jersey will run you $50 (all the way up to $200 if you want a specific jersey that is autographed). Ticketmaster.com is an online ticket store that sells tickets to all Sonics home games and we found it to have the best selection of seats available. The cheapest seat for a Sonics game is $10, but if you want to feel like a celebrity and sit courtside be prepared to shell out like $300 for a seat on the floor - which is the cheapest courtside ticket available. It looks like Seattle has a hard schedule again in 2006-2007 as they will play the top teams in the west (Phoenix, Lakers, Spurs). For Sonics home schedule and start times check out nba.com/sonics/schedule.

Seattle Sonics Fansites, Wallpaper :

If you are an NBA fan and love your Seattle Supersonics, then odds are you would love to share your enthusiasm with other Sonics fans. A great Sonics fansite is at sonicscentral.com/blog/ where you can download photos - wallpapers, view trade news, and even check out past articles on the team. We looked at a few different websites built by Sonics fans, but we have to say sonicscentral.com was the best fansite we came across. Building a fansite for your favorite team can be a lot of fun and nowadays you can interact with other fans across the world. Try going to tripod.com where you can build a website for free and use the websites tools to help you with html coding and basic web design.
