Washington Wizards Players, History, Schedule:Michael Jordan helped make the Wizards a household name with basketball fans when he chose to play his last professional games in Washington. Jordan did take his team to the playoffs, but they didn't have the talent to compete with the great teams in the Eastern Conference like Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and so many more. The Wizards have been a pro basketball franchise since 1961 when they were called the Chicago Packers. In 1974 they changed their name to the Washington Bullets (which is what most NBA fans remember them as) and today they are the Wizards and play in Washington DC at the Verizon Center. In 1968 the Bullets got 2 future Hall of Famers in Wes Unseld and Earl Monroe - which helped them win 57 games the very next year. In the early 1970's the Bullets added Elvin Hayes to their roster and they had a pretty good team that managed a few playoff runs. The Bullets would make the NBA Finals in 1975 -1976, but were swept by the Golden State Warriors. 1978 would be the Bullets year though as they would beat the Seattle Supersonics in 7 games to win the NBA Championship (the only title ever for Washington). Washington would bounce in and out of the playoffs for the next several years, unfortunately they never got back their winning ways. They traded for Moses Malone in the late 1980's and with Jeff Malone at guard Washington fans had high hopes, but those hopes faded fast and the Bullets were just an average team for many years after that. The 1990's saw some good players in the Washington line up with Rex Chapman, Bernard King, and Pervis Ellison. In 2001 Michael Jordan put on the Wizards jersey and played well, considering he was 39 years old. Today the Wizards are led by off guard Gilbert Arenas (a future all star), along with Caron Butler and Antwan Jamison. The cheap seat for a Wizards game is $10 which will put you in the upper level (not a bad buy though for only ten dollars). Other tickets range between $45 and $850 per ticket to attend a home game in DC. If you are a huge fan, the season ticket option is not bad (it brings down the price you pay per game) especially if you are actually gonna use the tickets to every game that comes to town. If you are trying to buy Wizards merchandise or a Gilbert Arenas jersey then be prepared to spend a little cash and check out ebay.com. Ebay is an online auction site where you bid on whatever item you want to buy (Ebay sells everything from shirts, sweats, shoes, trading cards, jerseys, mugs, etc) and if the price goes higher than you can afford you can just join another auction. Ebay is a great site to buy and sell on, especially if you are a big Wizards fan and want to find rare collectibles or memorabilia. A Gilbert Arenas jersey can be bought for about $70 - depending on which style you want like authentic, replica, autographed. T shirts are cheap on ebay, they will run you between $12 and $50 depending on the quality and the logo.
