Reviews: Best Cancun Hotels

Cancun, Mexico is located on the Caribbean side of Mexico and offers dozens of resort hotels to choose from. The "Hotel Zone", as it is referred to in guide books, is within minutes of the airport and the downtown region. No matter where you stay there are restaurants, beaches, and activities at every corner. I stayed at the Hilton Cancun a few years back and they are one of the few properties that offer an 18-hole golf course just across the main boulevard. Other hotels like the Hyatt Regency are right at Punta Cancun and near the convention center. Club Med and the Westin Regina are at the southern end of the line of hotels. Each hotel offers some kind of beach access and pools. For a great map of all the hotels along the Cancun beaches see HERE. Some of the more popular places to stay are listed down below (per TripAdvisor.com). The warm waters of the Caribbean are very inviting and many hotels have large, expansive pools with spas and water slides. I think the restaurants in Le Meridian are spectacular and worth at least 1 dinner even if you aren't staying there. Expect to spend around $150 to $350/night depending on the hotel and location. When you do a package deal you can often get airfare, hotel, and transfers for around $600/person for 5 nights. Look for hotels that offer breakfast as part of their nightly rate whenever possible. Some will give you a free day at the spa or other "hotel bucks" to spend on site throughout your trip. There is no need for a rental car in Cancun as the beaches and restaurants are all close by.

Cancun Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:

Cancun will provide a great getaway from the cold weather states like Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin during the winter months. I live in the Portland, Oregon area and with all the rain we get it's nice to escape for a few days down to Mexico and enjoy the sunshine and warm waters. I was lucky enough to vacation in late October a few years back without any weather problems. Hurricane season does run from late summer into the fall months and recently Cancun was hit with some large hurricanes that disrupted resort goers and put hotels out of business for a few days. Don't forget to get out to Chichen Itza for the day when you are there. The beaches can wait for you, but Chichen Itza is an historic site with incredible history that shouldn't be missed. If you get sick of your hotel food venture out to the downtown area where other American tourists hit the clubs and bars at night in familiar places like Pat O'Briens, Outback, Senor Frogs, Rain Forest, Hard Rock Cafe, and Fat Tuesday. The snorkeling along the beaches is only mediocre, but perhaps you can take the ferry over to Cozumel and get in some excellent snorkeling. Check with your concierge for details on those programs. Renting a car for the day and traveling south into the Mayan Riviera is a great activity as well or visit XCaret Eco Park or Garrafon. Tulum is not too far either as provides ruins that sit along the waters edge.

Also check out TripAdvisor. They have major review sections for almost every city and travel destination, covering topics like: hotel recommendations, attractions and dining, airlines and flights, weekend trips, maps, discount hotels, guidebook entries, and discount vacation packages. With many member comments, you again get first-hand information on hotels, bars, clubs, nightlife, sports, shopping, tourist attractions, and much more.
