Traveling to Ireland is something that everyone should do at least once in their life. The people are friendly, the bars are considered a "family" hangout spot, and the history is intriguing. A few years back I took the ferry from England over to Dublin to spend a few nights and of course take the tour of the Guinness beer building. Hotels dot the city streets and offer somewhat friendly prices although the US dollar continues to lag behind the Euro. Dublin is a very walkable city and public transportation (the buses) work quite well. You can follow the river that flows through town (somewhat dirty when I was there) and get a hotel on Tara St., Church St., or Patrick St. The pubs and bars are everywhere with lots of historical places to visit on your trip to. Accommodations are not always the same as those you will find in the United States, but I found all 3 star hotels and higher to be adequate in terms of amenities and services. The Four Seasons Dublin and the Davenport Hotel are two of our favorites and worth a look. Merrion Square and the City Centre are places you should try to get a room near. Even Trinity College area offers decent business hotels. A list of hotels (not necessarily by rank) are down below with websites for you to visit and check out photos, details, and booking online. Try to find hotels that offer breakfast as part of the package. Expect to spend at least $150/night in Dublin and even more if you go with the luxury properties like those of the Four Seasons hotel.
Dublin Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:
Part of the ambiance of a city like Dublin is the local culture of hanging out in pubs/bars after hours. Places like Stag's Head are perfect for business travelers or with the family. Irish culture is having the entire family out in many areas. Grafton Street, O'Connell Street, and Merrion Square are 3 popular tourist destinations that offer sightseeing, shopping, and historical significance. Sites that offer tours and travel guides for Dublin are GoIreland.com, and Visitdublin.com. Get maps, book tours, and learn what Dublin offers anytime of year. We also highly recommend visiting TripAdvisor.com for personal reviews and opinions of places to see, restaurants to eat at, and hotels to consider. Thousands of Americans visit Dublin every year and they all have something a little different to say about the city. Things have changed quite a bit since I was there as the city is growing and business is booming. I would definitely recommend renting a car at least 1 day and drive into the countryside or go west and visit Galway on the western seaboard of the country. Don't forget to drive on the other side of the road when in Ireland.
