Reviews: Best London Hotels

Traveling to London is always fun but finding a reasonable priced hotel room is getting harder and harder as the US dollar loses value to the British pound. London is a world class city in England which offers hotels in all ranges - 3 star, 4 star, and 5 star. The London Underground, or Tube, as they like to call it is very convenient and will eliminate lots of unnecessary walking. The question is what part of the city do you want to be situated in with your hotel room - the theater district, near Buckingham Palace, Covent Garden, Hyde Park, Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus, or Big Ben and Parliament. I have found that both times I visited London, the hotels are sufficient and the Tube took me everwhere I needed to go without much of a hassle. A great find in the heart of the theater district is the Covent Garden Hotel on Monmouth Street. Rates start at $225 British Pounds a night for a queen room. TripAdvisor has given many awards to this hotel and it's location is perfect for those that like theater (almost 21 theaters nearby). I like the fact it's near Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery, Royal Opera House, and SOHO. It's truly a luxury hotel with beautifully appointed rooms and suites.

The Sanctuary House Hotel is another excelelnt find near St James Park, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. Buckingham Palace is within ten-minutes (walking) and London's West End with shopping at Oxford Street and Regent Street is 1 mile away. Not too far away is Knightsbridge and Harrods and Trafalgar Square is also within a close distance. The hotel offers 34 bedrooms and is at 33 Tothill Street and the rates start at $160 Sterling Pounds for a single ($195 for a double). You can walk to Victoria Station or Westminster for a Tube ride to your destination. One option worth looking into is the Citadines Apartment Hotel near Trafalgar Square in London. It's an excellent alternative to hotels because you get more living space and can share the cost of the apartment with another couple or family if you are traveling together. There are literally 100's of hotels to choose from and TripAdvisor.com has rated many of them based on user feedback from their site. We have listed their top picks below.

London Vacation Tips, Recommendations, and Advice: Suggestions for a better Trip!:

I have been to London in both January and late May, both times it rained a lot. Even Wimbledon (tennis) has rain issues in July, so you can never say the weather will be ideal when visiting. You may get discount rates for traveling during the winter in January which can be a major bonus considering the way the US dollar has lost value to the British Pound in recent years. Americans are looking for every advantage we can get in terms of currency exchange. 3 days is probably plenty to see most of what you would want within the city itself. Consider a day trip to Windsor Castle - not too far away and an easy train ride. There is also Blenheim Palace or Oxford University a little farther away or even the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Kids will enjoy most of what London and the surrounding sites have to offer. Renting a car is a "no no" within the city as driving is crazy and hectic. Just walk or take the underground wherever you need to go. A taxi can be a fun ride but they are expensive and not used by locals unless the rain is so bad or there aren't any Tube stops nearby. Hotels will be expensive all over, so just assume you will be spending at least $250/night (US) minimum and enjoy your trip otherwise. The shopping at Harrods is incredible, try to stop by and pick up a souvenir for yourself or your family. Take an umbrella and a rain jacket as the weather is unpredictable year round.
